Pineapple

Pineapple, Ananas comosus, belongs to the Bromeliaceae family. Common Names: Pineapple, Ananas, Nanas, Pina. Description: o Growth Habit: The pineapple plant is a herbaceous perennial, 2-1/2 to 5 ft. high with a spread of 3 to 4 ft. It is essentially a short, stout stem with a rosette of waxy, straplike leaves. o Foliage: The long-pointed leaves are 20 - 72 in. in length, usually needle tipped and generally bearing sharp, upcurved spines on the margins. They may be all green or variously striped with red, yellow or ivory down the middle or near the margins. As the stem continues to grow, it acquires at its apex a compact tuft of stiff, short leaves called the crown or top. Occasionally a plant may bear 2 or more heads instead of the normal one o Flowers: At blooming time, the stem elongates and enlarges near the apex and puts forth an inflorescence of small purple or red flowers. The flowers are pollinated by humming-birds, and these flowers usually develop small, hard seeds. Seeds are generally not found in commercially grown pineapple. o Fruit: The oval to cylindrical-shaped, compound fruit develops from many small fruits fused together. It is both juicy and fleshy with the stem serving as the fibrous core. The tough, waxy rind may be dark green, yellow, orange-yellow or reddish when the fruit is ripe. The flesh ranges from nearly white to yellow. In size the fruits are up to 12 in. long and weigh 1 to 10 pounds or more. A type of tropical plant believed to originate from East Area of South America. Introduced in Malaya in the 16th century by the Portuguese. In year 1921 pineapple began to be planted in Singapore, Johor and Selangor as cash crop. Pineapple plantation continued to expand in peat soil area especially in Johor Malaysia is one of the world major producers other than Thailand, Philippines, Indonesia, Hawaii, Ivory Coast, Kenya, Brazil, Taiwan, Australia, India and South Africa. Canned pineapple fruit have high market demand in countries like Japan, United States, Europe Economics Union Countries, West Asia and Singapore Pineapple fruit have high content of Vitamin C which is needed for health due to healing wound or injury by absorption of iron minerals into blood vessel. Vitamin B's content in pineapple fruit especially B1 (thiamin) functions to help digestion process and smoothen digestion process in intestines, while Vitamin B3 (niacin) with carbohydrate content can control digestive system to make healthy.

Potassium content with sodium in pineapple fruit can control deep water balance in human body. Pineapple fruit also contains useful enzyme in medical sector namely Bromelin enzyme where it is used widely during surgery to control swollen, infection and prevent blood clot. Scientific name: Citrus maxima Also called Chinese grapefruit, shaddock, pumelo, pommelo, and

This is non seasonal fruits It origin from South East Asia which is Thailand and Malaysia It is the largest of the citrus fruits with a shape that can be fairly round or slightly pointed at one end (the fruit ranges from nearly round to oblate or pear-shaped) They range from cantaloupe-size to as large as a 25-pound watermelon and have very thick, soft rind The skin is green to yellow and slightly bumpy; flesh color ranges from pink to rose. It grows at tropical and near-tropical climate. Prefers hot and humid climate. It usually grown from seed At maturity the fruits are hand picked. They can be stored for several months It commonly have 16 to 18 segments, compared to most grapefruit that have about 12 segments The Chinese believe the delectable Pummelo is a sign of prosperity and good fortune - good things will happen if they eat it. The peel is also used in Chinese cooking or candied. In general citrus peel is often used in southern Chinese cuisine for flavoring, especially in sweet soup desserts. They are also good for jams, jellies, marmalades and syrups

Pulasan

Common Name: Pulasan Scientific Name: Nephelium natubile Specimens From: Malaysia Pulasan, originated from Malaysia, is very rare once out of South-east Asia, other than the Philippines. This crew-cut, punky fruit, is the cousin of the hairy rambutan. It is bigger, sweeter and the flesh does not stick to the seed. the seeds are edible. Eating style is exactly the same as eating the rambutan. Just use both your thumbs to prise it open. The leathery skin is soft but it is thicker and slightly harder to tear it apart. Pop the white, translucent flesh into your mouth or just bite it from your hand. The rind is usually red to reddish-black. The flesh is sweet and slightly juicy, plus the seed is edible and tastes like almond Ash Gourd

Ash gourd contains plenty of moisture and petite amounts of fat, protein, carbohydrates and fibre, apart from calcium, phosphorous, iron, riboflavin, thiamine, niacin and Vitamin C. In Ayurveda, ash gourd is used to treat epilepsy, asthma, lung diseases, urine retention, internal haemorrhage, and cough. The fruit juice is also effective in cases of mercury poisoning and snakebites. It can even treat mouth cancer, protecting teeth and gums when a mouth gargle of the juice is done regularly. It is also effective in bleeding of gums.
