Borrowing Product Licenses

The license Borrowing UI is only available for R2009b and higher. To enable borrowing capabilities using the Borrow UI, you must first run the following at the MATLAB command prompt:
com.mathworks.mde.licensing.borrowing.BorrowUI.getInstance().enableFeat ure(true)

And then restart MATLAB. This command will make the Borrow UI accessible through the Help menu. To access the Borrow UI, select from the menu bar: Help -> Licensing -> Borrow Products. A secondary window will then open entitled MathWorks License Borrowing. (NOTE: this will become a permanent addition to the menubar once the above code is used to enable the borrowing UI, regardless of whether the license is borrow enabled.) From the Help documentation: To borrow a license: 1. Choose borrowing option: automatic (borrow as you use) or explicit (select products) 2. Specify how long you want to borrow the licenses, the borrow period. Choose from 1 day (default) to 30 days. 3. Borrow the licenses. Method varies depending which borrowing option you chose. 4. Disconnect your computer from the network and continue using borrowed products. Note that you are borrowing licenses, not software. You must have the products installed on your local computer to use the borrowed licenses. To see which products are currently in use, available for borrowing, or currently borrowed, click the View Status tab. Click Refresh to update the display. Borrowing Product Licenses Automatically To borrow product licenses automatically: 1. Select the Borrow products automatically as you work with them option. The dialog box changes to include the borrow period option and the Turn On Borrowing button. 2. Specify the borrow period: from 1 day (default) to 30 days. 3. Click Turn On Borrowing. The MATLAB status bar displays the message Borrowing is on.

4. Work in the MATLAB command window as you would normally, performing the tasks you want to perform when you are disconnected from the network. As you use products, you borrow them. When you have borrowed licenses for all the products that you want to use, click Turn Off Borrowing. 5. Disconnect your computer from the network and continue using the borrowed products until the borrow period expires. You can also return borrowed licenses early. Borrowing Product Licenses by Selecting Products To borrow licenses by product name: 1. Select the Borrow selected products by choosing from a list option. The dialog box changes to include the borrow period option, a list of all the licenses that are available, and the Borrow button. 2. Specify how long you want to borrow. From one day (default) to 30 days. 3. Specify the product licenses you want to borrow by clicking in the checkbox next to the product names in the list. 4. Click Borrow. 5. Disconnect your computer from the network and continue using the borrowed products until the borrow period expires. You can also return borrowed licenses early. Returning Borrowed Licenses Early Note You cannot borrow licenses and then return them in the same MATLAB session. You must quit MATLAB and restart before you can return them. To return a borrowed license early: 1. Connect your computer to your network. 2. Launch the borrowing dialog box and select the Return borrowed products early option. The dialog box changes to include list of currently borrowed products. 3. Specify the product licenses you want to return early. By default, all borrowed product licenses are selected. Deselect any products you don't want to return. 4. Click Return.
