Indicators Key Idea 3: Critical thinking skills are used in the solution of mathematical problems. M3.1 Apply mathematical knowledge to solve real-world problems and problems that arise from the investigation of mathematical ideas, using representations such as pictures, charts, and tables. M3.1a use appropriate scientific tools to solve problems about the natural world
Lesson Objectives
(Blooms Taxonomy)
1. Students will be able to understand how thermometer scales are created. (comprehension) 2. Students will be able to recognize the differences between temperature scales. (knowledge) 3. Students will create their own temperature scale and compare it to other temperature scales. (synthesis)
---------------------Acceptable Evidence
*Could be collected for accountability/auditing purposes.
The teacher will ask the students to think about the tools of a scientist lab, and pose the following questions: 1. What kinds of tools do we use for measurements? 2. Is a thermometer a measuring tool? 3. What does a thermometer measure?
_______________
________________________________________________________ 1. The teacher will ask the bell ringer questions to the class and have the questions displayed on a PowerPoint Presentation. 2. The students will discuss the content of the bell ringer. 3. The teacher will discuss the creation of the Celsius and Fahrenheit temperature systems. (5 min.) 4. The teacher will guide the students to the A Matter of Degrees interactive online activity. 5. The students will launch the online activity. 6.
