Learn New Thing in a Youth Program

Becoming a participant in a Youth Program is amazing.

There will be many things you got there. Learn about the
country that you never know beIore is an interesting thing,
and that`s what I Ieel when I can be one oI the participant in
the Youth Program some years ago. It was a good experience
when I join in a youth program and can be Lampung
delegations Ior the Indonesian Youth Leadership Program
(IYLP) in 2006. At that time, I visited the most powerIul
country worldwide, the Dream Land where all people are
Iree to dream and get their dream, America.
In America, me and all oI the participants stayed Ior a month. Three weeks in Virginia, and a
week in Washington D.C. In Virginia, we stayed in Randolph Macon Woman`s College, a
college Ior women and we stayed in the dormitory. It was summer and all students are having
their holiday. ThereIore we can use all oI the Iacilities there. In Virginia, we have many
activities, such as visiting some places, learning, doing social activities, and many other. We
learn about many things, such as: how to be a good leader, American history, American economy
and many other. It was bored sometimes when you have to listen to someone who talks about the
history, but overall it was good and I miss the time when I Ieel bored in the class. The next
activity is culture show. Here all participants Irom some provinces in Indonesia have to show a
culture perIormance to American people.
Besides those things above, all participants also do some social
activities. At that time, I got a chance to be a volunteer in a place
which called Lynchburg Daily Bread. This is the place where all
poor people are Iree to eat as much as they want. Surprisingly,
they are served well like eat in a restaurant. There, all they have
to do is sit nicely and the volunteer will bring the Iood to their
table. Besides they can also order and choose Iive diIIerent drink
and dessert. They are served nicely and that is absolutely great.
AIter three weeks in Virginia, all participants move to Washington. There we stayed in the
dormitory at American University Ior one week. We also do many things in this place, such as
studying, sharing, shopping, and visit interesting place. There are many interesting places in
Washington, especially the government building. When we stay there, we got an opportunity to
visit some places like Capital Building, Abraham Lincoln Memorial, Indonesian Embassy, White
House and many other. It such an interesting thing to visit those places, there are many thing we
can get especially about the history oI America. From the building I visited, I know that America
is a country that really appreciates their history.
The experiences in visiting the United States makes me
realized that there is a similar thing between Indonesia
and America, Unity in Diversity. That`s what I saw
when I visited that place. Indonesia is rich oI culture;
each province has their characterization and it makes us
diIIerent between one another. The same thing also
happened in America, where all people Irom diIIerent
country gathered and united.
Overall, my experiences in joining the youth program give me many new knowledge and help
me much in improve my English. Learn English help you to learn the world. The more you learn
English, the more knowledge you have.
