Getting Started with CableIQ Reporter

Introduction
CableIQ Reporter Test Management Software is a Windows program that helps you organize, customize, print, and save twisted pair and coaxial test records from a CableIQ Qualification Tester. This guide helps you get started importing test records and creating test reports with Reporter software. For additional information, see the Reporter online help.

Using the Online Help


The CableIQ Reporter online help provides additional information on Reporter features. To get help for the current Reporter window Press F1. To see the online help contents Select Help on the Reporter menu; then select Help Topics.

Contacting Fluke Networks


Notes If you contact Fluke Networks about your tester, have the tester's software and hardware version numbers available if possible. To see this information, turn the rotary switch to SETUP; then select Version Information. If you contact Fluke Networks about Reporter software, have the softwares version number available. This information is available by clicking Help > About on the Reporter software menu. Also have available the type and version number of the operating system on the PC.

Localizing the Reporter Window


To change the language for Reporter and for printed reports 1 2 Select Options > Language. Select a language under Display Language and Report Language; then click OK.

To change the length units Select Options > Length Units; then select Feet or Meters.

Importing Records from a CableIQ Tester


Importing records adds them to the CableIQ Reporter database that is currently open. To import records from the CableIQ tester 1 2 3 4 5 Import button Start CableIQ Reporter software on the PC. Turn on the tester. Use the USB cable provided to connect the tester to the PC. If you want to add the records to a particular Reporter database, open the database now. Click the Import button; then select CableIQ from the dropdown menu.

Working with the Reporter Database


The main Reporter window lists the records in the current database, as shown in Figure 1. Results from the highlighted record are shown in the bottom half of the window.

Customizing Reports

Sorting Records
You can sort the records in ascending or descending order based on the entries in the Cable ID, Date/Time, Length, Result, or Qualified columns. Printed reports show the records in the same order as the database list. To sort the records in ascending or descending order Click on the title of a column in the database. For example, click on Cable ID to sort the records by cable IDs. The sorting order switches between ascending and descending each time you click on the title.

Editing Cable IDs


To edit a cable ID Double-click on the ID in the list of records; then edit the ID.

Customizing Reports
Use the Options menu to customize the appearance of printed reports.

Editing the "Tested by" Information


The Tested by information shown in the Reporter window and on printed reports comes from the User Information imported with CableIQ records. It typically includes the CableIQ user's name, company name, address, or other information. To edit the "Tested by" information in Reporter records 1 2 3 4 If you want to edit the information in only some of the records, select them now. Select Edit > Change Tested by Information. The fields show the information from the first record in the list selected. Enter text into the fields provided. To use the information on all the records in the database, click Update All. To use the information only in the records you selected, click Update Selected.

Editing the Site Information


You can enter a site name and address that appears on printed reports. To enter site information for the current report 1 2 Select Options > Site Information. Enter a site name and address; then click OK.

Changing the Logo


To place your own logo on printed reports 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 Have your logo available on the PC in bitmap (.bmp) format. Select Options > Report Logo; then click Use custom bitmap. Locate and select the bitmap file; then click Open. To use the logo on all reports, click the Use the Custom Bitmap on all new databases box. Otherwise, the logo is used only on the current report. Click OK. To use the default CableIQ Reporter logo printed reports Select Options > Report Logo; then click Use standard bitmap. Click OK.

Printing Reports
The Print function lets you print selected records or all records as a CableIQ report. To see what the printed report will look like 1 2 3 Select File > Print Preview. Select to preview All records in list or Selected records in list; then click OK. Use the buttons at the top of the preview window to change pages and zoom in on the report. Figure 2 on page 8 shows a sample report.

Printed reports show the Tested by information from the first record in the list selected for printing. The Tested by information comes from the User Information imported with CableIQ records. 6

Saving Reports as PDF Files To print a report 1 2 Print button 3 4 If you want to print only some of the records in the database, select them now. Click the Print button. To print only the selected records, click Selection. Click OK.

Saving Reports as PDF Files


Saving reports in PDF format lets you deliver them on diskette, CD, by email, and by other electronic methods. PDF files can be viewed and printed without Reporter by opening them with the widely-used Adobe Acrobat Reader software. This software is included on the CableIQ Product Manuals CD and can also be downloaded from the Adobe website. Notes PDF files cannot be opened in Reporter. If you save multiple reports in a PDF file, Reporter saves them in one PDF file where each report is on a separate page. To save test reports as a PDF file 1 2 PDF button 3 4 5 If you want to save only some of the records from the database, select them now. Click the PDF button on the Reporter toolbar. Select to save All records in list or Selected records in list; then click OK. In the Save as PDF dialog box, enter a file name for your reports. The .pdf file extension is automatically added to the file name. Change the folder for saving the file in if necessary; then click Save.

To combine PDF files Adobe Acrobat Exchange software lets you combine multiple PDF files into one file. Visit the Adobe website at www.adobe.com for details.

Saving the Database

Saving the Database


The Save function saves all records in the database to one CableIQ Reporter (.ciq) file. The Export records function lets you save selected records to a new .ciq file, add records to an existing .ciq file, or export records to a comma-separated value (.csv) file. To save all the records to one file 1 Click the Save button. Save button 2 3 4 To save a previously saved file under a new name, select Save As from the File menu. In the Save As dialog box, enter a file name. The .ciq file extension is automatically added to the file. Select a directory for saving the file; then click Save.

To export selected records to a new file 1 2 3 4 5 Select the records you want to export to a new file. Select File > Export records. Select Export selected records; then click OK. In the Export records dialog box, enter a file name. The .ciq file extension is automatically added to the file. Select a directory for saving the file; then click Save.

To add records to a previously-saved file 1 2 3 4 5 If you want to add only certain records to a file, select the records now. Select File > Export records. Select Export all records or Export selected records; then click OK. Locate and select the .ciq file you want to add the records to; then click Save. Click Append.

Select All records in list or Selected records in list; then click OK. In the Export records dialog box, enter a file name. In the Save as type field, select Comma Separated (.csv). Select a directory for saving the file; then click Save.
