How To: Runes

Runes add an exciting new layer of depth and customization to League of Legends. Runes enable you to increase the persistent stats of your Summoner.

There are four types of Runes: a) Marks (colored red): increase Attack and Damage statistics

b) Glyphs (colored blue): increase Magic statistics

c) Seals (colored yellow): increase Survivability statistics

d) Quintessence (colored black): super Runes which greatly increase stats

Each of these types of Runes has 3 tiers, which you will be able to distinguish by the brightness of their colors. The higher the tier, the better the Rune:

a) Tier 1: dull

b) Tier 2: outer border glows

c) Tier 3: entire Rune glows

1. To open your Runebook, click View Summoner Profile on the LoL home screen.

2. Click the Runes tab.

3. You are now at the Runes screen. The Runes you currently own are listed on the left (your Grab Bag), and your Runebook is displayed in the center of the screen.

4. To view the pages in your Runebook, navigate with the arrow or number buttons, located below the Runebook.

5. Each of the three pages in your Runebook represents a different instance of your Rune combinations. In other words, you can have three different combinations of Runes, one on each page (you select which Runebook page to use in the Champion Selection menu before a game starts). *Note: The same Rune can be used on multiple pages of the Runebook.

6. In order to put Runes in the Runebook pages, you first must acquire runes. To do this, click Get Runes.

7. Click the Get Tier Runes buttons to add Runes to your Grab Bag. You can have a maximum of 60 Runes in your Grab Bag. *Note: This screen is temp art.

8. When you are finished acquiring Runes, exit this window.

9. You now have Runes to add to your Runebook. The higher level your Summoner is, the more open Rune slots you will have in your Runebook pages. Also note that you will unlock a Quintessence slot every 10 levels.

10. To add Runes to the Runebook, click-and-drag them from the Grab Bag to an open slot (of the same color) in the Runebook.

11. The Runes in your Runebook will increase the stats of your Champions in-game. The combined statistics of the Runes on a page are listed on the right. Remember, each of the three pages will have different combined statistics, depending on the Runes you put into the page. ***Note: The stats listed below the rune icon and the stats listed in the mouse-over tooltip are displayed differently (stat % is displayed in the mouse-over tooltip).

12. When you have finished adding Runes, click Save Book. You can also click Clear Page to remove all the runes from the page and start over, or Undo Changes to revert to your previous Rune arrangement.

13. You can also combine Runes to form different and more powerful runes. To do this, click Combiner.

14. In the Rune Combiner, you can combine Runes from your Grab Bag to form different runes. Combine two Runes to form a Rune of the same Tier (i.e. two Tier 1 Runes would form one different Tier 1 Rune), or combine five Runes to form a Rune of a higher Tier (i.e. five Tier 1 runes would form one Tier 2 Rune). You can only combine 2 Runes of the highest Tier.

15. To combine Runes, click-and-drag them from the Grab Bag to the slots in the Rune Combiner, then click Combine.

16. The Runes will be melted together to form a new Rune.

17. The new Rune will be added to your Grab Bag. Its stats are listed on the right. ***Note: The stats listed below the rune icon and the stats listed in the mouse-over tooltip are displayed differently (stat % is displayed in the mouse-over tooltip).

18. When you have finished filling your Runebook, youre ready to play the game with your newly upgraded stats. You will select which Runebook page to use in a match during Champion selection by navigating to the desired Runebook page and clicking Done.
