Patterns of Functioning

A. PsychoIogicaI HeaIth

When the mother of the client was asked about what makes her baby cry, she
sobrang ingay kapag nagigising. The mother also confirmed, "Kapag umiiyak, siya

n terms of her daughter's cognitive abilities, the mother affirmed "Sa tingin ko,
She said that her baby is very active and observant. Even if there are new faces
around, her baby still wants to interact with them. Her baby also likes to imitate most of
their actions.

When the mother was asked to rate the health condition of her child from 1 to 10
(1 being the lowest and 10 being the highest), she affirmed, "Kung pwede nga lang 10
Akala
ko sikmura lang niya yung may problema. For the mother of the client, a healthy
person is the one who doesn't get sick as for him "Health is wealth. Moreover, she said
that for a person to be considered healthy, all systems of the body must be normal. As
she added, a person becomes healthy when he follows proper diet and exercise. Dapat
She makes certain that her baby
has routine checkups to her pediatrician every month. She also gives supplements to
her baby such as Vitamin C and Growee.

INTERPRETATION:

The client's psychological health is normal as affirmed by the mother. The client
is well taken care of by her family. There are also no signs of delay in her cognitive
abilities. The client was brought to the hospital due to vomiting and shortness of breath
or dyspnea.

ANALYSIS:

Ordinary life often presents the individual with extraordinary challenges,
complexities, setbacks and hardships. Psychological health concerns itself with how you
cope, how you are doing in response, and whether you find life to be interesting and
enjoyable. Although life is better when we are feeling good, there is no avoiding the fact
that there will be ups and downs. Coping strategies vary among individuals and are
often related to the individual's perception of the stressful event. (Fundamentals of
Nursing 8
th
edition Kozier and Erb's, p. 648) Difficulty or uncomfortable breathing is
called dyspnea. The dyspnic person is often appears anxious and experiences
shortness of breath a feeling of unable to get enough air. (Fundamentals of Nursing by
Kozier and Erb's 8
th
edition, vol.2 p. 1363-1364.)

B. Socio- CuIturaI Pattern

According to the client's mother, their house is well lighted and ventilated as she
verbalized "Ang bahay namin my atik kaya lumalabas yung mainit na singaw ng aming
bahay doon.
The client also mentioned that there are
some rats, cockroaches and flies in their house and they tried to kill this by using trap
paper.
Their drinking water is distilled (Wilkins) and the
garbage collector comes to their house twice a week. "Sinisigurado naming malinis ang
iniinom ni baby. Pinapanatili ko din siyang mabango at malinis. Pinapaliguan ko siya
araw araw.

For the client's activity, "Lagi lang palakad-lakad si baby.

INTERPRETATION:

The client's socio-cultural health is normal as stated by the mother. However,
there is presence of insects in their house. They are also living near canals which put
the client's health at risk.

ANALYSIS:

A safe home requires adequate lighting, both inside and out. This will minimize
the potential for accidents.(Fundamentals of Nursing 8
th
edition Kozier and Erb's, p.712)
n general, regular exercise is essential for maintaining mental and physical health.
Having leisure activities are helpful to have a good relationship with others.
(Fundamentals of Nursing 8

edition Kozier and Erb's, p.1113).

C. SpirituaI Pattern

With regards to spirituality, the mother stated "Mayroon kaming maliit na altar sa
bahay. Ginagaya
pa niya kami tuwing nagdarasal. She added, "Madalas magdasal ang aming pamilya.
Malakas ang aming paniniwala sa Diyos. Tinuturuan ko ang aking mga anak na
magdasal pag gising sa umaga, sa tuwing kakain at bago matulog. Palagi kong sinasabi
Being a Christian
for her is so important. She always makes sure that every week their family goes to
church. The mother also hopes that even if her children are still young, she could
inculcate in them the good values.

INTERPRETATION:

The client's spiritual health is normal as ensured by the mother. Even if the client
is still young, her mother teaches her to have fear in God. She and her family always
pray to Him and ask guidance to their everyday lives.

ANALYSIS:

Religion is an organized system of beliefs and practices. t offers a way of
spiritual expression that provides guidance for believers in responding to life's questions
and challenges. Prayer is a spiritual practice; for many, it is also a religious practice.
