Arielle Hattan Long Range Lesson Plan Reflection During this semester I taught math to a general education 4th

grade class. For this long range lesson planning I taught Chapter 1 from their math curriculum. While teaching these lessons I recognized some strategies that worked really well for my class. One of these strategies was using large visuals. I used this strategy in many of my lessons, including the lessons that included multiplication and money. This worked well for my students who have a hard time focusing because it caught their attention and made them interested in the lesson. Another strategy that worked well for me as a teacher was circulating around the room while teaching. At the beginning of the semester, I often stayed in one place; at the front of the room. I was afraid that if I moved around the room I would loose my focus teaching or forget what I wanted to say. After a few lessons and increasing my confidence level I started circulating around the room a little bit more each lesson. When I was first given this assignment I planned multiple weeks lessons at once. I quickly realized that as a teacher I couldnt do this. As a student myself, I know how it takes more than one lesson to learn content. I did not adjust for this learning curve when I first planned my lesson. As the lessons continued I modified how I would pre-plan my lessons. Another area of my lessons that I would modify in my future would be the use of technology. I feel that I could have incorporated the computer lab in more of my lessons. I also could have used more interactive technology like the SmartBoard that is in the computer lab. The most important thing I learned while developing these lessons was how to make accommodations and modifications. As a special education teacher Ive always known how important it is to make accommodations and modifications but I hadnt had practice writing them into lesson plans. When I first started writing these lesson plans my accommodations and modifications were very basic, however, as the lesson planning progressed I became more specific in my individual students accommodations and modifications. I believe that these accommodations and modifications were effective for the students. Cullen, Aby, and Kylie have had an increase in their confidence and test scores. A question regarding modifications and accommodations would be regarding the students who cannot do the classroom work at all. For my student Cam, I always gave him a worksheet to do the first 30 minutes of class. In the future I would like for him to be more interactive with the class but he is at least 3 grade levels behind his peers. How can I make an accommodation for him?
