Dear Parade Participant(s): As we embark upon our Silver Anniversary, the City of Sanford, and the dedicated volunteers known as the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Celebration Steering Committee, Inc., (MLK) cordially invites your organization to share in this exciting accomplishment of twenty-five years of honoring Dr. King s legacy with our annual parade. The Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. parade will be held on Monday, January 16, 2012 in the Goldsboro community beginning at Crooms Academy of Information Technology High School, 2200 West 13th Street, Sanford, Florida at 10 AM. The MLK Committee asks your continued support in our efforts to present a parade with integrity and dignity as we Remember! Celebrate! Act! We are calling for decorative floats, cars, walkers, bands, singing groups, dance groups to represent what the day really means brotherhood/sisterhood, brotherly/sisterly love, nonviolence and service to mankind to help him up and not down. Simply stated Let There Be Peace on Earth, and Let It Begin With Me. Please note that there are changes to the guidelines; review and read carefully before submitting your application. The signer of the application will be notified if a parade participants meeting will be required and if a meeting is scheduled, it is requested that the application signer be present to answer any questions and/or concerns the Parade Committee may have regarding your performance, float, car, or group participation. Guidelines

(Please read carefully before completing the application)

Date: January 16, 2012/ Time: Staging @ 8:00AM Parade begins @ 10:00AM PARADE ROUTE: Staging at Crooms Academy of Information Technology High School, 2200 West 13th Street disbursement at Holly Avenue. Please follow instructions.
1. This event is scheduled for the date and time listed above, the parade participant(s) agree that Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Celebration Steering Committee, Inc. will not be responsible for any loss caused by fire, flood, theft, rain, cold, fog, or any other elements of nature or man. No individual/unit will be allowed to take part in the parade without the prior approval of the Parade Committee, who reserves the right to reject those entries not in compliance with the following regulations. Parade participants are required to wear/present their identification tags/permits at all times. (ID Tags and City Permits will be given out during the staging time). All individuals and organizations participating in the parade are subject, while in the City of Sanford, to obey the laws and regulations of the jurisdiction. Failure to adhere to those laws and regulations or to obey the lawful command of an official empowered to give such command, will cause immediate removal from the parade, and may be cause for arrest and/or fine. Marshals assigned for this purpose will control the conduct and movement of the parade. Participants will obey the directions of the Marshals as it relates to the parade. Failure to do so will cause the offending individual or unit to be removed from the parade. Units may contain no element higher than thirteen feet (13), to provide clearance of overhead wires and traffic lights. All units with children under third-grade (3rd) level will be expected to station adults along the parade route to assist in the event young persons become tired or require other attention. Throwing of any object from the parade will not be allowed. No firecrackers or discharge of firearms or other pyrotechnic will not be allowed. Parade participants should ask their own insurance agents if their insurance offers them sufficient protection while their units are in the parade. Floats rented or purchased will be constructed and operated as provided by the regulations and codes of the City Of Sanford. Participants who provide their own float are responsible for adherence to these regulations and codes and should familiarize themselves with them. - Over

Individuals and organizations in the parade are expected to perform courteously, in good taste and with safety in mind at all times during the formation, execution, and dismissal of the parade. There will be no persons hanging out of vehicle windows and/or doors. There will be NO STOPPING for performances on the Parade Route. If you would like to perform in the park, please complete a Park Participant application. All floats, marchers, and vehicular entries in the parade must be decorated and/or carry signs, banners, or other identifying nomenclature that displays the parade theme, REMEMBER! CELEBRATE! ACT! You must complete and return the Application and Hold Harmless agreement located on the back of the application . You must provide a valid copy of the drivers license and valid copy of automobile insurance if you are entering a vehicle into the parade. #14 DOES NOT APPLY TO PUBLIC SCHOOLS.
