The YMCA is an organization that looks

to help and build locals communities. This is the reason we have researched ways in which the YMCA can go green and be more socially and ecologically responsible. We have proposed many different ways that the YMCA can improve their carbon foot print and save on operating cost by going green. We also hope that with how much the YMCA is involved with the local community that the community will make more of a conscious effort to also be green.

REUSE
The YMCA will implement the reuse strategy to avoid waste and over use of products and materials. As a simple example the YMCA will display signs in the areas that are critical to remind members and staff that certain items need to be reused. For example, the plastic cups for water is one of the main items that the YMCA will remind people to reuse. If possible, the members will reuse the same member pass over the years because it is a piece of plastic that can be attached in the key chain. The gym can reuse packing materials and cardboard boxes if needed. Also, the equipments will be well taken care of so they look nice and last longer before replacement.

REDUCE
The YMCA is also going to implement in its campaign the reduce strategy. In the reduce strategy members and staff will be educated in how they can reduce the use of plastic materials, paper and waste. The gym is going to lecture its staff on reducing the amount of paper used in the corporate side. The YMCA will take a bigger step into going more technologic savvy, as this is needed to reduce paper over use. The trainers will work with a PDA and they can access the members information through the PDA and make any changes to it. The reception will have new computers and will save all information in the hard drive, so there is no need for printing. The gym will have several at screen TVs with the schedule of the classes offered and any other relevant information. In addition to that, the YMCA will have an application for all smart phones so they can release information and communicate better with members and staff. All receipts will be done through e-mail.

RECYCLE
With the YMCA being an organization with over 45 million members worldwide, if just one center initiated a total recycling program, tons of recyclable material could eventually be saved from landlls. Things from glass, paper, cardboard, aluminum and steel cans to old tennis balls, running shoes, and steel from old or broken exercise equipment is recyclable. With the YMCA being a safe and easy drop off and collection center, the community will not have a choice but to look around and get involved.

With the YMCA being a center to collect used gear that most people dont even think to recycle, landll waste can go down signicantly. Have you ever thought about recycling your old basketball? The dozens of tennis balls you have that no longer bounce? How about your used crutches from an old injury? Just imagine the YMCA being at the center of a world where 99% of waste is recycled.
