CHAPTER 1
INTRODUCTION

A. Background
Islam is the religion oI the rich. Treasures include all aspects oI human liIe, including
health problems and treatment. Islamic medicine really is not inIerior to western medicine. For
example, Ibn Sina was a Muslim who became a pioneer oI modern medical science. Islamic
medicine relies on natural ways and methods oI the divine. Which is actually very useIul Ior a
Muslim in maintaining health and treating illness.
As a caliph in the earth, the human mind equipped by Allah SWT, humans to search Ior
everything that is needed to preserve his liIe such as Iood, drink and shelter. In searching Ior
these things, people will get good experience and a lack oI good and harm. And the reason is that
process, improve and develop the experience to get better results. ThereIore, humans are always
in the process oI Iinding and perIecting until the always progressive. In contrast to animals
equipped only with instinct alone, until their lives are directed, and and are static. Intellect is the
Iorm and building human culture in various aspects oI liIe including in the Iield oI medicine.

CHAPTER II
DISCUSSION

A. Definition
Medicine is a culture to save ourselves Irom the diseases that interIere with liIe. Culture
is not only inIluenced by the environment, but also by the trust and conIidence, because humans
have been Ielt in nature there is something stronger than him, whether that be perceived by the
senses maupaun that can not be Ielt and be unseen. This treatment did not escape the inIluence oI
belieI or religion in human embrace.
In general in the world known term treatment oI medical and non medical. Experts
disagree about explanations oI medical terms and deIinitions limit the terminology to 3 opinion,
namely:
First opinion
Medical or medicine is a science to know the various conditions oI human body in terms
oI health and diseases that beIall him. This opinion is on the right by the doctors nisbat classical
and Ibn Rushd Al-haIidz.

Second opinion
Medical or Medicine is the science oI various conditions oI the human body to maintain
existing health and restore it Irom the pain.

1hird Opinion
The science oI the human body conditions, in terms oI healthy conditions and
deterioration in health conditions to maintain existing health and return to good health when his
condition is not healthy. It is the opinion oI Ibn Sina.

The deIinitions are even though the words and expression are diIIerent but have meaning
and content oI the adjacent, although the third deIinition was the one who has the privilege
because it is comprehensive covering the meaning intended by the deIinition oI Iirst and second.
Thus the term medical treatment can be summed up as a culture to save ourselves Irom disease
interIere human liIe in the bottom right to the science in the know with the condition oI the
human body, in terms oI healthy conditions and declining health conditions, to maintain existing
health and return when conditions unhealthy. Medical treatment alone in human history is the
result oI a long process which in the traditional start to become modern like now.

. Guide Al-Quran About Treatment
Many Qur'anic verses which hinted about the treatment because the Qur'an itselI is
derived as a bidder and a mercy Ior believers. "And we're down the Qur'an as a bidder and a
mercy Ior people who are believers." (Surat al-Isra ': 82). According to commentators that the
other name oI the Quran is "AsysyiIa" which means that the terminology is a cure. "O people,
have come to the book containing the lessons Irom your Lord and a cure Ior the soul, as a
guidance and mercy Ior the believers." (Surah Yunus: 57)
Besides the Qur'an suggests about the treatment also told about the beauty oI the universe
that we can make the source oI the drug maker. "With (the rain) it He produces Ior you crops,
like olives, dates, grapes and all kinds oI Iruit. Indeed, in this truly there are signs (oI Allah) Ior
those who think. (Surat an-Nahl: 11). "Then eat oI all (kinds oI) Iruit and Iollow the path oI God-
muyang have (simpliIied Ior you). From the bee's stomach out drink (honey) that a variety oI
colors, in which there is healing Ior mankind. Indeed, in this there are signs (oI Allah) Ior those
who think. "(Surah An-Nahl: 69)

C. Methods of Treatment The Apostles Previous

Prophet Isa AS
"And will serve Him as the apostle to the Children of Israel (he said) " I have come to you with a
sign (miracle) from your Lord, that I make you (something) off the ground shaped like a bird,
then I blew it, then it becomes a bird with the permission of Allah. And I heal the blind from birth
and people who had leprosy. And I turn on the dead by Allahs leave, and I tell you what ye eat
and what ye store in your house. Jerily in this there is a sign for you, if ye have faith. "(Surah
Ali-Imran. 49).

According to the muIassir, Prophet Jesus curing the blind and lepers with the way in
wipe clean with his hands, eyes blind and leprosy-aIIected limbs with the permission oI God
through the miracle it was instantly healed.

Prophet Musa AS
The Prophet Moses did not escape the nature oI humanity which is sunnatulloh is sick.
He was sick and then pick a leaI which is essentially intended as a remedy in tempelkannya God
heals and then leaves it on the sick limb, since miracle instantly healed. And both times he was
sick and then pick a leaI spontaneously without drugs that essentially intended as God the Healer
so when the disease is not cured.

Prophet Muhammad SAW
Prophet Muhammad as a Messenger oI God diprinyahkan to deliver his revelation to
the people oI his behavior can not be separated Irom the Quran because he made good role
models Ior all human beings. Word oI God: "Behold the Apostles themselves that there are good
role models Ior you, Ior people who expect grace (God) and the (coming) Judgement Day and
remember Allah much. " (Surat al-Ahzab: 21).
Imam Ali said: "Verily, all the behavior oI the Prophet Muhammad is the Qur'an". Several
methods oI treatment perIormed Messenger :
1. Ruqyah
Ruqyah is one way oI treatment that never taught the angel Gabriel to Prophet
Muhammad SAW. When the Messenger oI pain then the angel Gabriel came close to his
body, then Gabriel read one prayer she breathed ketubuh Prophet, he was instantly
healed. This is his prayer: "Bismillahi arqiika minkulli syai-in yu'dziika minsyarri kulli
naIsin au-ainiasadin Alloohu yasyIiika Bismillahi arqiika". There are 3 ways ruqyah
perIormed by the Prophet :
a. Nafats
That is recited verses oI Qur`an or prayers later end then breathed on both hands
and then in uasapkan ill patients throughout the body . In a history that the Prophet
Muhammad when he was sick then read "Al-muawwidzat" namely three letters Qur'an
that begins with "A'udzu" the letter An Naas, Al-Falaq, and Al sincere then breathed on
the palms hand and diusapkan whole body.
b. Saliva is pinned on his right hand.
Narrated by Bukhari, Muslim: that the Prophet Mohammed when there is a man
who scratched and wounded, then later he read a prayer and then saliva placed on his
right hand, then rubbed in the wound that person.

c. Put the hand on one limb.
Prophet Muhammad never ordered Uthman bin Abil Ash who is sick with his
saying: "letakkanlah your hands on the sick limb and then read" Basmalah 3x "and" bi-
izzatillah A'udzu waqudrotihi minsyarrima ajidu wa uhajiru 7x ".

2. Prayer Mikjizat
A lot oI prayers on healing taught by the Prophet Muhammad told his
congregation, one oI them: "cor isyIi abdaka yan aw-ulaka aduwwan yamsyi laka ila
sholaah".

. y Using Honey
As according to Surat An-Nahl : 69 that God made honey as a medicine, the
Messenger oI using honey to treat a Iamily Iriend who was ill. In one story, there are
Iriends who come kepaa Prophet told his son was ill, then the Prophet ordered his son to
drink honey while reading the prayer.

4. ruise
Berbekam including treatment that taught the Prophet Muhammad SWT, even the
Prophet Muhammad ever did bruise and provide wages to the artisans bruise. Prophet
said: "Truly the best oI what you do to treat disease is to do a bruise. "

. Treatment Method Hukama (Expert Wisdom)
Wisdom is the ability to understand the secrets oI Shari'a religious. Expert
Wisdom are the ones given by God Solih science and karomah so he became a
knowledgeable person to understand the secrets oI Shari'a religious. Experts generally
used as a healer wisdom by most people. "He gives wisdom unto whom He wills.
Whoever is given wisdom, he indeed has given a lot oI good. And no one can take heed
except those who have common sense. "Surah Al-Baqarah: 269). Some oI the methods
used by experts wisdom is not much diIIerent Irom methods used by the Prophet
Muhammad, because most oI the methods used also reIers to the verses oI the Quran and
hadith, some oI the methods used are :

Ruqyah
Ruqyah that diajarka to the Prophet and those made by the prophets, next to that
done by hukama, but the prayer that they use the same understanding. Wisdom experts
when treating someone with way ruqyah by reading verses oI the Qur'an or prayer and
then blown into the water later in drinking water by the patient.

2 Wafaq
WaIaq is the verse oI the Qur'an, Asma Allah, Dhikr, or a prayer written on
objects such as paper, cloth used as a treatment or other media by the Expert Wisdom.
One example: waIaq Ior the sick liver (liver) is written in white glass and then Iilled with
water and then in Drinks. Insha Allah heal. (Write letters big Ha 2 times and the letter 'ain
6 times).
"Any disease that is curable, iI the right medicine, the disease will be cured with
the permission oI Allah 'Azza wa Jalla." (HR.Muslim). "God will not lose a disease but
also reduce the medicine oI God". (HR.Abu Hurayrah).
The existence oI various diseases including Sunnah kauniyah created by Allah
SWT. Diseases is a disaster and test the set oI Allah upon His servants. And indeed in the
accident there were beneIits to the believers. Shuhaib Ar-Rumi RA said: Messenger oI
Allah SAW said: "It's amazing the case oI a Muslim, and all oI his case is good. That is
not owned by anyone except a believer. II he got the spaciousness, he is so grateIul it was
good Ior him, and iI he struck trouble, he was patient. So that's a good thing. "
(HR.Muslim no.2999). Including the primacy oI God Almighty granted to the believers.
He makes the pain that beIall a believer as a sin and their mistakes. As mentioned in a
hadith: Abdullah ibn Masud RA said: Rasulullah SAW said: "It is not a Muslim seized in
the Iorm oI illness or other disorder, but God shed his mistakes as trees shed their
leaves." (HR.Bukhari no.5661 and Muslim no .5678). When taking a drug that enables
simple to use drugs then do not switch complex. Any disease that can be rejected by
certain Ioods and prevention, do not try to reject it with drugs. Ibn al-Qayyim said :
turning people Irom treatment nubuwwah like turning them Irom treatment with the
Koran, which is a useIul drug. (Ath-Nabawi Thibbun p.6, 29).
Thus, it is appropriate that a Muslim makes Nabawiyyah treatment is not merely
as an alternative treatment. But making it as a main course oI treatment, because oI
certainty comes Irom Allah SWT. But oI course related to cure a disease, one should rely
solely hambatidak with certain medications, and should not be believed that obatlah that
cure the illness. But he should have sat back and berantung the Essence that gives the
disease and that lowering drugs as well as the God Almighty. Really no one can give
healing except Allah alone. Karna was the Prophet Abraham praise his Lord: "And when
I was sick, He was the one who my healing." (Surat ash-Syu'ara ': 80).

D. Traditional Medicine In Islam Views
BeIore Islam comes in the midst oI society, people already have the knowledge
and means oI treatment they get Irom experience. This is the traditional treatment that
many named based on the mystical darkness. In summary it can be said that traditional
medicine is everywhere (including in Indonesia), is a primitive, so unscientiIic and
speculative, mystical, magic, and static and not in teaching. The spell and the rajah and
mascot are prohibited by Islam. Because all oI it bring men to shirk.
There are other traditional treatments that do not link themselves with Iine spirits as the
cause. That is just based on symptoms / complaints tired-tired, weak body, etc.. The
medicine is in the Iorm oI leaves as a herbal medicine. Jamu is not mysticism nor magic,
but but a natural treatment or a taste oI nature.
Another traditional treatment is a massage (massage) Ior a broken bone or
acupressure by pressing a particular body part or by any other name derived Irom
Chinese acupuncture, and cupping.
who Iounded the housing to care Ior leprosy patients, Ibn Al Baytan who himselI
with collecting the plants useIul Ior the treatment and so on, in the Abbasid period they
established a modern hospital in Baghdad.

. How to Win the Islamic Medicine
Islamic medicine really is not inIerior to western medicine. For example, Ibn Sina
was a Muslim who became a pioneer oI modern medical science. Islamic medicine relies
on natural ways and methods oI the divine. Which is actually very useIul Ior a Muslim in
maintaining health and treating illness.
As Muslims must really want a medication that Syar'i with Thoyyiban Halalan
Drugs that do not contain elements oI harm / kemusrikan elements as well as treatment oI
Islam which is being developed at this time.
In the Iight Ior and developing therapies Islam we know in advance about the
medical world oI Islam.
In Saheeh Al-Bukhari narrated Irom Said Bin Jubair, Irom Ibn Abbas, the Prophet
Sholallahu alaihi wasalam
"Healing can be obtained in three ways : First, by drinking honey, the second,
with Alhijamah , the third with a hot iron, and I do not allow my people to treatment with
a hot iron"
Source Treatment oI Prophet Muhammad
1. a Honey Treatment Perbs
2. Treatment Al Hijamah / Cupping
3. Treatment with Kayy (hot iron)

Thibbun Nabawi
God will not make the drug Irom the substance which God Iorbade. HR.Bukhari
Imam Ahmad: There should be a Muslim accept the concoction oI drugs given by InIidel
dhimmi, because it was Ieared there was one ingredient that is Iorbidden oI God.

Legal Syar'i
II the consume oI drugs and Ioods that are kosher are then produced it becomes
obligatory duty kiIayah. II producing halal products is obligatory kiIayah then distribute
it becomes obligatory kiIayah.

Principles of Islamic Medicine
1. aith That God Almighty Healer
When the attention oI modern medicine is now quite a lot that contrary to the
principles oI treatment oI the Prophet. Humans are now many think that drugs can cure
disease. This belieI is the belieI that Ialsehood could even lead to shirk. A scholar Irom
Malaysia H Ismail bin Ahmad revealed that the average Muslim patients treated at the
hospital, aIter recovering their pain more distant Irom Allah because they have a
mistaken belieI that they are a drug that cures in addition to these drugs can not be
ascertained its halal.
Instead, the Prophet taught that Allah is the Essence oI the All-Healer. Allah says,
"And when I was sick, and it is He who heals me." (Ash Syu'ara: 80). This belieI will
help patients to relax and close to God, which in turn will accelerate the process oI
recovery. That is why the Messenger oI Allah was always taught the sick to pray to Allah
SWT. One oI the prayer 'that matsur is do'anya Prophet Jonah: Laa illaha illa anta
subhanaka Inni Kuntu minal dhalimiin or prayer as Iollows :
"Cor rabbannaasi adhibil ba'sa wasyIi Antas syaaIii laa laa syiIaa'a illaa syiIaauka
syiIaan yughaadiru saqma" Ya Allah, Rabb human keepers, hilangkanlah this disease and
heal,, You are the Healer, no healing but Your healing, healing which does not leave the
slightest illness "(Bukhari)

. Drug Use Legal Thoyyiban
Treatment principle in Islam that the Prophet taught the second is that drugs are
consumed must be lawIul and good. Allah that decreases the disease, then he was the
cure. II we want healing Irom Allah, the media eIIort (drug use) we should diridhoiNya
media. God Iorbid we enter and destroy illicit goods into our bodies. Allah says :
"And eat oI the lawIul and good Iood Irom what God has rezkikan to you, and
Iear Allah, that ye believe in him" (QS.Al-Maidah: 88)
"... And do not throw yourselves in destruction .." (QS.2: 195)
Holy Prophet said: "Any Ilesh (body tissue), which grew out oI the Iood is llegitimate,
then Iire the Fire Ior him." (Reported by At-Tirmidhi)
"Verily, Allah reduce disease and cure, and make sure there is no cure every
disease. So berobatlah you, but do with the Iorbidden. "(Narrated by Abu Dawood)
The lawIul use oI drugs in addition to bringing ridlo God is the body in order to stay
healthy. Ibn Qayim states that any drug that is not haram. Because each is Iorbidden is
not cure but will bring in new diseases ie heart disease.

. Not Harmful
Treatment principle in Islam, the third is in menerapi patients or taking drugs
should be considered kemudhoratan drug. A Muslim doctor will always consider the use
oI the drug to the patient. For simple illnesses medicine are simple medication (with Iood
/ natural medicine). May not provide patients with complex medication (chemical drugs)
beIore taking a simple medication because oI complex drug can have damaging nature oI
the patient's body.

4. Treatment Is Not (Superstitious, Heretical & Churafat)
Treatment that is prescribed in Islam is a treatment that can be studied
scientiIically. Medicine in Islam should not be smelling shirk (go to the shaman,
cemetery, etc.). God himselI always gave his help (drugs) through the knowledge because
oI an illness.

5. Always Looking or A etter (Effort & Trust)
Islam teaches that in hendaklak seeking drug treatment or a better doctor. Islam is
taught in medical ethics when there are 2 drugs that are the same quality then the second
consideration that must be taken is a more eIIective and has no damage eIIect to the
patient. That is why the prophet encourages us to seek treatment to the experts. His Word,
Abu Dawood, An Nasai and Ibn Majah narrated Irom the hadeeth oI 'Amr Ibn Syu'aib,
Irom his Iather, Irom his grandIather, he said: Messenger oI Allah has said: "He who
perIorm treatment, while treatment was not known beIore that, then he is responsible ( Ior
his actions) "

Medical Sources Prophet.
In Saheeh Al-Bukhari narrated Irom Said Bin Jubair, Irom Ibn Abbas, the Prophet
Sholallahu alaihi wasalam "Healing that there are 3, with honey to drink (bisyurbata
'asala), an incision kniIe Hijamah (syurthota mihjam), and with a hot iron (kayta naar )
and I Iorbid my ummah to treatment with a hot iron. "
"Use two healers; Qur'an and Honey" (Narrated by Abu Hurairah Thabrani Ath)
From shelI hadiths above we can know that the source oI the prophet treatment are :
1. Qur'an
2. Honey (Natural Medicines), or
3. Combined Qur'an and natural medicine.
Three main sources oI this treatment and noble according to Ibn Qayim. He said
that the characteristic treatment in Islam is the Qur'an and the use oI natural materials.
While treatment alopatik (chemistry) is not known in the treatment oI Islam. This
treatment is the emergence oI the Roman people who dug dg sillogisme principle oI an
opinion oI Aristotle, and Socrates. While the Islamic treatment oI excavated on the basis
oI revelation. Thus Iollow revelation is more certain and more saIe than in Iollowing the
opinion oI mankind.
The truth about good / exellent natural medicines compared with drugs alopatik
(chemical) have been Iound by medical experts in recent years. In the Convention oI
Medical Heretic, Robert S. Mendelson, said that nearly 100 oI antibiotics are given
unnecessarily. Antibiotics should only be given 3-4 times in liIe. In the book Bad Bad
Doctor Treatment: the use oI antibiotics Ior common salesme excessively, resulting in
body getting weaker and stronger bacteria. Increasingly diIIicult disease being treated,
which means greater risk oI death.
