Vocational Service Award ceremony held

The Vocational Service Award ceremony 2011 of the Rotary Club of Uttara was held at Uttara Club in the city recently, says a press release. Every year, the Rotary Club awards personalities with high ethical standards in the fields of different vocations in recognition of their contributions to the community. The award recipients of this year are Syed Bahauddin Alam, Md Nazmus Sakib and ABM Raffi Sazzad in Science & Technology for their invention of digital watermarking for safe mobile banking; Dr Md Ibrahim Khalilullah in Education for community school in Bogra for poor people; Md Shahidul Ahsan in Entrepreneurship; Manjurul Ahsan Bulbul in Media & Journalism; and Dr Taibun Nahar Rashid for Social Service & Literature. The 3D seismic survey team of BAPEX was awarded special recognition for exploration of new gas field in the country. Prof Dr Hossain Mansur, chairman of PetroBangla, Mortuza Ahmed, MD of BAPEX, and the team members led by Meherul Hasan received the award. Prof Dr MA Sattar Mandal, member of Planning Commission and former vice chancellor of Bangladesh Agriculture University, presented the awards to the winners as the chief guest. Rotary District Governor Rtn AHM Zaker was present as special guest. The function was presided over by Club President Rtn Dr Md AH Zahidul Islam Romel. Among others, Programme Chair Dr Md. Khaleque Chowdhury, KS Hasan spoke in the function. Prof Mandal in his speech congratulate the recipients and urged all to come forward to build a happy and prosperous Bangladesh. The RCU also honoured three Rotarians children for their outstanding results in HSC and A level examinations at the function.
