Leslie Manion Professor Algonquin College 1385 Woodroffe Avenue, Room B 237b Ottawa, ON K2G 1V8

Dear Professor Manion: As requested, I have provided my learning style and typology results and my conclusions. Learning Style The VAK Learning Style Self-Assessment suggests that I have a Kinaesthetic learning style. This means that I learn through experience rather than theory, and that in order to understand how to do something, I must undergo the task myself. Jung typology Through the Jung typology test, I discovered that I am an INFJ. The I means that I am an introvert rather than an extrovert (E), meaning I am comfortable being alone and working independently. The N suggests that I am intuitive, meaning I make decisions based on feelings rather than on what my senses (S) see or hear. The F stands for Feeling as well, rather than thinking (T), and finally the J means that I have a judging personality meaning that Im organized and like to plan. Result Assessment Here, I have analyzed the results I received from both tests and whether or not I believe they are correct or not. VAK: I completely agree with the VAKs statement that I am a kinaesthetic learner, because of experiences in my previous schooling. Before I came to Algonquin I went to the University of Ottawa for two years in the Biochemistry program. While there I discovered that when it came to some classes I could only learn the material from the labs. This suggests I am a kinaesthetic learner because I was unable to learn in a visually or auditory fashion from the lectures, but was able to by performing the experiments myself in the lab and then connecting them to the material. Jung typology: The Jung typology test results showed me to be an INFJ, meaning that I am an introvert (I), intuitive (N), make decisions based on feeling (F), and judge and plan the actions Im going to take (J). I agree that I am most definitely an introvert because I dont like working in a group, and have never felt comfortable in a social environment. Throughout my childhood I always preferred reading quietly somewhere over interacting with other children, and though as I grew older I am more social, I still need my space and silent time to myself often. I also believe I am intuitive, as I will often believe in people or things based on my gut feeling rather than on something that I see or hear myself. I am also a very creative person, who enjoys painting and writing and

excelled in art classes, which requires the ability to formulate ideas, which is a large part of intuition. Finally, I have a great deal of difficulty explaining my ideas or thoughts to another person in a concrete way that they can understand. I often leave out details or forget to explain certain parts of the idea until later which leads to confusion. This attribute is something an S would be able to excel at, but something an N would struggle with. The test also stated that I am an F, meaning I base decisions based on feelings rather than thinking. I agree with this, as evidenced in my current workplace. I work at Starbucks coffee, and occasionally I see someone making a drink wrong or following an incorrect procedure. Although I know that informing them would be beneficial to their future work and to everyone else, I often hesitate in doing so because I am afraid to hurt their feelings with my criticism. I usually avoid confrontation and will feel guilty for long periods if I upset someone, both of which suggest that I think with my heart rather than with my head. The last part of the test suggests that I am a J, meaning that I am organized and good at planning. This is the only part of the Jung typology that I disagree with. Although I like making lists of supplies I need, or things I like to do, I rarely bring them anywhere, and I almost always forget something while running errands. Additionally, I am horribly unorganized and my room is a huge mess. I have three sets of keys because Im always misplacing them, and sometimes cant find any when I need them, and Im always losing my notes or forgetting to phone people I promised I would. That leads me to believe that I am more of a P than a J, or at the very least only a very slight J. Conclusion Both the learning style test and the Jung Typology were well constructed and almost perfectly accurate in describing my personality. I found them both very beneficial in determining how I learn and what my strengths and weaknesses are as a person. The Jung typology in particular I will take into consideration when applying for a job, or when interacting with co-workers. I will also make an effort to take it periodically in order to see if any changes have been made. I hope that my results and analysis are well documented and explained, and I thank you for this opportunity to learn a bit more about myself and how it will relate to my future career in business. Sincerely,

Tricia Morris
