INTRODUCTION
The City of Coppell is requesting proposals for bridge designs for the replacement of the Sand Lake Road Bridge between Carrollton and Coppell. The proposals submitted in response to this RFP will be used as a basis for selecting the firm for this project. The firm will begin immediately upon execution of the Agreement by the City of Coppell. Please submit a final report that includes the following a stress/strain analysis of the design, identification of all forces by use of free body diagrams, a detailed budget that includes the list of materials, a 3-dimensional rendering, and a scaled blueprint that includes all of the measurements. Along with a report, the submissions must also include a scaled balsa wood model of their design. The report and the model will be presented to the City Council on October 25, 2009. Any questions related to this RFP shall be submitted in writing to the attention of ____________ via e-mail.

BACKGROUND
The State of Texas Department of Transportation, Bridge Division, recently concluded their inspections of bridges in the City of Coppell. It was determined that the bridge that passes over the Elm Fork Trinity River on Sandy Lake Road did meet the standards of the National Bridge Inspection Standards. This stretch of road is very vital to the community as it a major thoroughfare from Coppell to the President George Bush Turnpike. Any length of time that this stretch is nonoperational would hurt the community of Coppell.

The company that wins the bid will have a $5 million dollar budget to create a bridge that will go over this span. As we are looking to further the efforts of the community to become a green community, the materials that are used must be of the green variety. We are interested in one of the possible 6 designs: - Girder bridge - Arch bridge - Truss bridge - Cable Stayed bridge - Rigid Frame bridge - Suspension bridge

PROPOSAL REQUIREMENTS
These guidelines are provided for standardizing the preparation and submission of proposals by all consultants for professional services. The intent of these guidelines is to assist firms in preparation of their proposals, to simplify the review process, and to provide standards to better compare firms proposals. Proposals shall contain the following information in the order listed: 1. Introductory Letter The introductory letter shall be submitted to the head of your firm and they will then forward the letters to the City Council. This letter shall include a list of the team members and their responsibilities, how their bridge is going to help the City of Coppell continue their green efforts and a description of the type of bridge that you are designing. 2. Preliminary Sketch The preliminary sketch does not need to be the final project. It does not to need to be drawn to scale. The City of Coppell would like to just see some of the ideas that the competing firms are developing.

** Upon submission of the proposal a list of specifications for the bridge and a list of green materials will be presented to each frim. Also, the requirements for the final report and presentations will be distributed. **
