1) Study the following and make a list of its wattage:
Computer (Acer Laptop) 60 180 Watts Fluorescent or bulb 9 watts Refrigerator (GE) 345 kWh Air conditioner (Carrier) 1209 Watts Television (Sony TV) 100 500 Watts

2) Study your refrigerator at home and make a report on the following: a. The energy source that provides the work to remove the heat.
The energy source that provides the work to remove the heat is the heat engine.

b. The power rating.

c. The location of heat engine coils.

The heat engine coils are located at the back of the refrigerator and is located away from cooled space.

d. The temperature at several different times: Inside the refrigerator

The temperature inside the refrigerator is about 35F (1.6C) which is above freezing.

Inside the freezer compartment

The temperature inside the freezer compartment is 0 F (18 C).

Near the heat exchange coil

Since the heat exchange coil is where the heat of the refrigerator releases, the temperature near the heat exchange coil is good.

In the room some distance away from the refrigerator

The temperature in the room some distance away from the refrigerator is 24C.

Answers to the following questions: 1. How does the information gathered affect the efficiency of the refrigerator? By the information that Ive gathered, the efficiency of the refrigerator expanded than before. Ive gathered more knowledge about the parts and the functions of the parts of the refrigerator.

2. What is entropy?

Entropy is a thermodynamic property that can be used to determine the energy available for useful work in a thermodynamic process, such as in energy conversion devices, engines, or machines. Such devices can only be driven by convertible energy, and have a theoretical maximum efficiency when converting energy to work. During this work, entropy accumulates in the system, which then dissipates in the form of waste heat.

3. What is the 2nd law of thermodynamics? The Second Law of Thermodynamics states that "in all energy exchanges, if no energy enters or leaves the system, the potential energy of the state will always be less than that of the initial state." This is also commonly referred to as entropy. 4. Discuss how the refrigerator affects environmental condition. ( As an example of heat engine) There are some things that people do that waste energy and release harmful atmospheric pollutants. It occurs sometimes when a person is not cleaning cooling coils periodically or when not replacing older machines with newer, cleaner and more energy efficient ones. Also, when a person is not checking for leaks and containing leaks to prevent hazardous CFCs present in many older models of refrigerators.
