1. Advanced Pre-Processing Recap Exercise
Load Recap_Exercise_1_startup.CATAnalysis
Below is how looks like the part when you open it.
As there are several meshes of this part, you want to make sure that you will apply the restraints on the good mesh.
Click on the "Mesh Part Filter icon" The mesh part dialog box appears: Generative Part Structural Analysis Expert Detailed Steps COPYRIGHT DASSAULT SYSTEMES 7
Select "Mesh to work with" Click on Ok Click on Ok again to close the dialog box
So far, you should obtain this:
Now that you have applied all the restraints, you will apply the loads.
1.3 - Loads:
You will now apply acceleration
Click on Generative Part Structural Analysis Expert Detailed Steps COPYRIGHT DASSAULT SYSTEMES 8
Select the body as support Select the correct mesh as done above using the "filter mesh part" Set on Z: -9.8m/s2 Click on Ok
You will now applied a force vector
Click on Generative Part Structural Analysis Expert Detailed Steps COPYRIGHT DASSAULT SYSTEMES 9
Enter 5000N in the Z direction like below:
Select this surface as support: Generative Part Structural Analysis Expert Detailed Steps COPYRIGHT DASSAULT SYSTEMES 10
Select the Mesh "Mesh to work with" using the Mesh part Filter icon Click on Ok
Below is what you should obtain:
In this Pre-Processing Recap exercise, you have seen how to apply different types of restraints and loads on a specific mesh. Generative Part Structural Analysis Expert Detailed Steps COPYRIGHT DASSAULT SYSTEMES 11
Master Exercise Frequency Analysis 1. Free-Free Vibration Analysis of a Crankshaft Load the CATIA document "CATGPS_Crank_Shaft.CATPart"
In this master exercise, you will start by defining a "free Frequency Case". A "free frequency Case" is a "Frequency Case" without "restraints set" in the specification tree.
1.1 - Post-Processing
Open the GPS Workbench and create a Free Frequency Analysis of the crankshaftClick on the shortcut icon Click on Generative Structural Analysis button.
Select Free Frequency Analysis.
Click on the Rigid Virtual Part icon in the Mesh Specification toolbar
Select the flywheel face as support for the rigid virtual part. Generative Part Structural Analysis Expert Detailed Steps COPYRIGHT DASSAULT SYSTEMES 12
Select the virtual part you have created, and assign a mass of 2kg
Click on OK Generative Part Structural Analysis Expert Detailed Steps COPYRIGHT DASSAULT SYSTEMES 14
You should obtain something like this:
You will now apply a virtual part on the other side of the Crank Shaft. Click on the Rigid Virtual Part icon in the Mesh Specification toolbar
Select one of the two half cylindrical surfaces of damper as support for the rigid virtual part, i.e
Select outer point as part handler. Generative Part Structural Analysis Expert Detailed Steps COPYRIGHT DASSAULT SYSTEMES 15
Click on OK Perform the same operation with the 2nd half cylinder (use the same handler point)
Click on the Mass icon in the Mass toolbar
Select one virtual part on damper, and enter mass value of 2kg Generative Part Structural Analysis Expert Detailed Steps COPYRIGHT DASSAULT SYSTEMES 16
Click on OK. Do it again for the 2 nd virtual part You should obtain: The pre-processing is done. The next step is the computation. Generative Part Structural Analysis Expert Detailed Steps COPYRIGHT DASSAULT SYSTEMES 17
2. Computation of the Free Vibration Analysis of the Crankshaft Load the CATIA document "CATGPS_Crank_Shaft2.CATAnalysis"
2.1 - Computation
Before you run the computation, you will have to modify some default settings. Double-click on "Frequency Case Solution" in the tree, in order to edit the computation parameters.
Click on OK Generative Part Structural Analysis Expert Detailed Steps COPYRIGHT DASSAULT SYSTEMES 19
3. Visualizing the Results
Load the CATIA document "CATGPS_Crank_Shaft3.CATAnalysis"
3.1 - Post-Processing Click on the "Deformation" icon in the Image toolbar
Double-click on "Deformed Mesh" in the tree:
The following dialog box appears:
Select the 7 th modes and click on OK Generative Part Structural Analysis Expert Detailed Steps COPYRIGHT DASSAULT SYSTEMES 20
Do it again for the following frequencies
For the mode of your choice, display an animation: Click on the Animate icon in the Analysis Tools toolbar
You can animate either one way or both ways, and you can specify the number of images between the two extreme positions. 20 images is the maximum: it gives you a smoother animation, but is also slower. You can change the current mode by clicking on "select"
