GENERAL HEALTH, STERILIZATION & LICENSING REQUIREMENTS

:::PLEASE READ CAREFULLY AND THOROUGHLY -- VERY IMPORTANT:::

1.) LICENSING:
The Rhode Island Department of Health requires by law that every tattoo artist and/or body piercer obtain a temporary license as either a Tattoo Artist Practitioner or Body Piercing Technician. The criteria for ALL individuals offering tattooing and/or body piercing at the Rhode Island Tattoo Expo is based on the following conditions being documented by the Rhode Island Department of Health Licensing Office in advance of the opening and/or prior to any tattooing or body piercing at the expo. Individual is already licensed within the state of Rhode Island verifiable through the states license verification system. OR Individual applies in advance of the expo and schedules, and successfully completes, a practical application exam. OR Individual submits the appropriate tattooing and/or body piercing license application to include: 1. Evidence of licensing or registration from another acceptable state, county or municipal authority or health agency authorizing that individual as a licensed tattoo artist and/or body piercer. 2. Show evidence of compliance with: The Occupational Safety and Health Administrations (OSHA) Blood Borne Pathogen Standards Current CPR certification

There are no other options that are acceptable. If an individual does not apply for or produce all of the necessary licensing and paperwork they will not be able to tattoo at the Rhode Island Tattoo Expo. This is non negotiable and is not up for interpretation or discussion.

2.) REQUIRED DOCUMENTS & IDENTIFICATION

Please see the Rhode Island Department of Health Tattoo Artist Practitioner or Body Piercing Technician License Application for ALL licensing requirements at http://www.health.ri.gov/programs/facilityregulation/ The $90.00 fee applies to each license (i.e. $180.00 if an individual plans to both tattoo and body pierce) and is made out directly to the General Treasurer of Rhode Island via U.S. money orders only. The temporary licensing fee is separate from the cost of the Artist-Vendor booth space.

3.) WORKSTATION REQUIREMENTS:

Barrier products are required. Please work as safely as you can. The Rhode Island Department of Health will be on site at all times and will expect to see barriers in all tattoo booths. All tattoos applied at the expo must be bandaged prior to allowing the customer to leave the booth. Bandages may be removed for the purpose of entering the tattoo contests but should only be done in a tattoo booth with the assistance of the artist. Tattoos that are fresh and dripping bodily fluids pose a threat of cross-contamination. Please be aware of this throughout the weekend and bandage your customers cleanly and safely.

4.) STERILIZATION PROCEDURES:

All needles used must be autoclaved, date stamped, single use, and disposed of in provided sharps container. Artists using an autoclave ON SITE must have evidence of recent spore testing within the last 60 days.

5.) CLIENT AND PRACTITIONER HEALTH RELATED INFORMATION:

Aftercare instructions must be made available to all clients. It is the artists responsibility to make sure that each customer receives them and knows what to do. No client should receive body art if they are judged to be intoxicated. Body piercing of genitals or nipples must be screened from public view. If you plan to offer this service your station must include an opaque screen for such purposes. You are obligated to bring the screen yourself as it is not included with your booth registration. Additionally, all body piercers are subject to any and all guidelines set forth by the Rhode Island Department of Health. Please note that tongue piercing is not allowed in the state of Rhode Island.
