The Message Living by the Light in a Dark World Pastor Burrow (Part 5 of the Sermon Series Receiving a New Life for Christmas) Invitation to Christian Discipleship and Church Membership *Hymn The Prayers of the People The Lords Prayer (in unison) Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy Kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, the power and the glory, for ever and ever. Amen. *The Blessing and Benediction *Extinguishing the Candles (Taking the Light of Christ into the World) Acolytes *Parting Song *Postlude Enter to Worship Leave to Serve Joy to the World! The Prelude and Call to Worship Welcome and Announcements *Lighting of the Candles (Bringing in the Light of Christ) *The Hymn of Invocation *The Prayer of Adoration Angels We Have Heard on High Acolytes #132 Brad Unland

*The Prayer of Confession (in unison) Father, as we celebrate the coming of your Son to atone for our sins, We acknowledge that we have not been fully open in acknowledging and confessing our sins. We often justify our wrong-doings rather than pleading for your mercy. We sin against others and then want to blame them for our sin. We want you to forgive us, but we are slow to forgive others. We want your blessing, but we dont want to make basic changes in our lives. We become more unselfish during the Christmas season, but when it is over we tend to revert back our old selves. Save us from any pretense about how we are living our lives, and hear us as we come to You: Just as I am without one plea, but that thy blood is shed for meO Lamb of God, I come... Amen Individual Confessions (pray silently) The Assurance of Pardon *Gloria Patri (Children may come forward for Childrens Time as we sing) #623 Childrens Time - Lighting the Advent Wreath *Hymn *Advent Hymn The Epistle

*Where this mark appears, all who are able please stand to honor God. (Feel free to
stand or keep seated according to your own comfort needs.)

Light
in a Dark World

Some people change their ways when they see the light, others only when they feel the heat.

Welcome to Worship
elcome to New Hope Church, a place for new beginnings! If you are visiting, you will discover a loving, spirit-filled church family. Here is some helpful information as you join us in worship today: All who worship here are equals in the sight of God, regardless of race, age, gender, physical disability or religious affiliation. Communion, when celebrated, is open to all who profess Christ as Lord and Savior, whether affiliated with this church or not. Children may partake of Communion as well, if parents approve. A nursery is available during the service; please see a greeter for directions. (This is for infants and children up to 3 years of age.) Handicap-accessible restrooms are located off the narthex (foyer) and adjacent to the entrance lobby in the Fellowship Hall/Gym. Please remember to sign the attendance folder at your pew so we will have a record of your visit with us today. Thank you for remembering to silence your cell phone during the service. No food or beverages in the sanctuary, please. If you arrived as a visitor we hope that you leave as a friend and worship with us often! New Hope Church exists to: Glorify God in worship and rejoice in our life together; Share the Good News of the Gospel in word and deed; Reach as many as we can with the saving love of Jesus; Help each person grow toward Christian maturity.

thru 11 will have their own service, tailored especially for them. It will be initially conducted by Brad and will be held in the Office Complex until a sound system can be purchased for the gym. Youth Worship on Wednesday nights Starting January 11 @ 6:00. The focus of Wednesday nights is to help teens to grow as disciples of Jesus by learning to read, understand, and apply His Word. Each week will be a lot of fun! Wednesday Night is not just for Christians, but is also great for people who are open to finding out more about the reality of God and His message. This is meant to be an informal time of study, so youth are encouraged to come as they are, including late if necessary, to just get some extra time together. New Small Groups Starting February 5. More info on this to come. New Hope Choir Led by Ben, the New Hope choir is more than just a choir. It is a small group that meets on Sunday evenings to, yes, practice some songs, but also to fellowship, express concerns, reflect on a devotional together and pray for one another. Those in the choir are blessed to be in it together. Join the choir and find out why! They meet every Sunday evening at 6:00.

Thought for the Week

ome gifts you can give this Christmas are beyond monetary value: mend a quarrel, dismiss suspicion, tell someone, "I love you." Give something away--anonymously. Forgive someone who has treated you wrong. Turn away wrath with a soft answer. Visit someone in a nursing home. Apologize if you were wrong. Be especially kind to someone with whom you work. Give as God gave to you in Christ, without obligation, or announcement, or reservation, or hypocrisy. - Charles Swindoll, Growing Strong, pp.
