Wednesday Plans 8-8:20: Welcome Kids, put away supplies, All About Me, take pictures 8:20- 8:45:

Share All About The Teacher Balloon-popping activity (Introductions) Some of you know each other because you were in the same class last year. I do not really know any of you yet. So I thought it would be fun to play a getting to know you game. I am going to pick four people to come up to the front at the same time. They will be given a balloon to pop. (hold up balloon and pop it) After they pop the balloon they will find a piece of paper with a question on it. They should practice reading the question silently and then ask me for help with any difficult words. Then one at a time they will read their question and answer it. Call groups of 2-4 students at a time to come up and pop a balloon. Go over clip chart (practice day- warn students if you see them doing something that would be a clip move) How to get to Share Square w/ campfire song 8:45- 9:15: What a Good Teacher Looks Like (on carpet w/ chart paper)(ask them what makes a good teacher. Choose a few that you are good at & write on stick figures. Then, choose a couple you need to work on. Tell them even adults have things they need to get better at and we never stop working to improve ourselves) What a Good Student Looks like have students come up w/ words that describe a good student on their own papers, draw themselves & write 3 things they are good at & 1 goal to improve on. 9:15- 9:45 Procedures :Emergency ( double clip move if talking while emergency or drill) - Bathroom & drinks/ line up (marshmallow toes) Go over Marshmallow-Toes: Hallway behavior Show a marshmallow. Make a web on the white board with the word marshmallow in the middle. Pass out marshmallow and ask students not to eat it right a way but feel it. (soft, white, squishy, powdery, sweet, smells fresh) Outline their remarks as they state their descriptions of the marshmallow.Drop

your marshmallow on the floor and tell them to listen to the sound it makes on the floor. They should come to the conclusion that it makes no sound. It is quiet. Explain to the class when they walk in the halls or around the room when other people are working they should have marshmallow toes and marshmallow voices. What do you think that means?Discuss that you would like them not to talk and to walk quietly in the halls using their marshmallow voices and toes. Read poem Marshmallow-Toes Walking through the hallways, Everyone QUIETLY goes Being respectful, all the way, Walking on our Marshmallow-Toes!

9:45-10:15 Read Chrysanthemum, Name-o game (ask each student to write his/ her name on a post-it and draw out for bingo) What do you like about your name? Dislike? Do you know why you were given this name? If so, what was the reason? If you could have another name, what would it be? Why? Share the book, Chrysanthemum, with children. Then ask: How did Chrysanthemum feel about her name in the beginning of the story? What changed Chrysanthemum's feelings about her name? What kinds of things did Chrysanthemum's parents tell her to help her feel better about what was happening at school? What happened at school to help Chrysanthemum feel good about her name again? Why do you think Chrysanthemum's classmates teased her about her name? How do you think Chrysanthemum felt? What would you have done if you were Chrysanthemum?
