After Action Review

To: Captain Arseneau Cc: Lt Hum Captain Arseneau, On the weekend of 11, 12 and 13JUN10, the Spring FTX was taken place at Blue Heron Scout Camp, Robins site on 6th Line near Acton, Ontario. All of the activities in the Ops Order that were scheduled have taken place. WO2 Dixon was our Cadet OPI who did a great job with the Snare and Tent Shelter Activity. CI Wong was our Orienteering O did an outstanding job on how to read a compass with our junior cadets. F Sgt Enriquez did a great job as acting squadron warrant officer for the activity. He took the position as a challenge and successfully completed his task with his senior cadets. On Friday afternoon, an advance party left the squadron at 1545 to the FTX with 1 Officer, 2 CVs and 5 senior cadets. Upon arrival on site, a recce was carried out for layout of the campsite. We designated POL site, mess area, and sleeping arrangements for both male and female, cooking and campfire areas. On Saturday morning, we had a few cadets who came to the FTX due to the fact they were at an ACR on Friday night. Here are the following cadets who arrived on Saturday: LAC Tarnawski came at 0815 Cpl Payette came at 0845 Sgt Gomez who came in approximately at 1300 due to a relay for life for a cure for Cancer WO2 Leyer along with some FCpl and Cpl manned the kitchen along with the guidance of CI S Briggs. Each morning, there was cold and hot cereals along with bread with fruit jam and peanut butter. None of the cadets who attended the FTX had any food allergies. Hot and cold beverages were also served. Lunch on Saturday was served with chicken noodle soup along with beans and sliced hot dogs.

Supper was planned with Ready Meals to Eat (MREs). OCdt Settle left at approximately at 1815 on Saturday due to personal reasons along with Cpl Settle The following cadet left the Spring FTX due to illness was: AC Cevriz who left at 2030 on Saturday with his parents All staff took a leadership role and insure that the all the cadets and staff were safe during the activities, meals, free time and during the night. A light drizzle did not hamper our day on Saturday as the activity took place in the treed area. One of our senior cadets (WO2 Dixon) cut himself with the hatchet on his index finger and OCdt Settle administered first aid immediately. No further treatment was needed. The feedback that I got from the parents on Monday regarding their cadets was that they enjoyed the weekend. As an Officer Cadet and OPI for this exercise, I found that along with my fellow Officer Cadet Settle and the CIs and CVs that we manage and supervise the cadets very well. The only thing that would have liked to have changed is that there were no senior officers in attendance on the exercise to give guidance as I am a new CIC officer and this was the first exercise that I was OPI.
