Their core business is providing a learning program for students to achieve system wide and school based learning outcomes. Schools also aim to facilitate and support participation among parents, students, administrators, teachers and others in the school community and between the school and departmental support structures. Your opportunity
As the Regional Music Coordinator (RMC) you will: Play a vital role in delivering the vision of Education Queensland. The leadership of the RMC is critical to improving the educational outcomes of students in the Instrumental Music Program in schools. Focus on developing the quality of teaching and learning as well as nurturing positive relationships between students, teachers and stakeholders.

The Regional Music Coordinator reports directly to the Regional Director / Assistant Regional Director or the Program Manager and any relevant regional governance groups on all aspects of the role. The RMC also reports to principals in conjunction with school program delivery processes and staff management and development issues.

Your role
You will have responsibility for leading the following activities and delivery of the following key tasks: LEADERSHIP Lead the instrumental music program across primary and secondary schools in the Region to develop, articulate and commit to a shared educational vision focussed on providing quality learning outcomes for all students. Provide professional supervision and support for Instrumental Music Teachers. Provide curriculum leadership to instrumental music teachers to improve student learning outcomes. Uphold the Music Program as a value based, ethical and moral activity. Embed socially just practices in all musical activities.

PROFESSIONAL SUPERVISION AND SUPPORT Provide professional supervision and support to Instrumental Music Teachers, and management of the overall performance for these teachers in primary and secondary sectors. Provide advice and support to principals in relation to school based music programs. Monitor the Instrumental Music Program alignment with appropriate professional standards, and in conjunction with regional officers and principals, work constructively and collegially to overcome issues Set high and achievable standards for student and staff performance. Support principals and teachers in implementation of the Instrumental Music program, including curriculum, pedagogy, resourcing, recruitment of students, assessment and implementation of the Instrumental Music Curriculum Guide. http://iwww.qed.qld.gov.au/strategic/eppr/curriculum/crppr006/curriculumguide.pdf Facilitate targeted and quality professional development for instrumental music teachers addressing instrumental pedagogy, through professional development seminars, programs, networks and modelling. Provide direct support to teachers in their teaching practice. Develop future leadership capacity in the Instrumental Music Program Demonstrate specialised knowledge of at least one area of the Instrumental Music Program (Brass, Percussion, Strings or Woodwind) as well as conducting ensembles. Actively participate in and engender an attitude of life long learning and ongoing professional development within instrumental music fields.

Manage staffing for the Instrumental Music Program in a Region, ensuring departmental and music specific policies and procedures are developed and aligned with appropriate compliances. Manage complex and unique instrumental music resources to achieve the instrumental music program goals, including Music Resource Centres. Manage the recruitment, appointment, and allocation of Instrumental Music Teachers, also assisting with state wide recruitment and selection to ensure professional standards. Establish procedures to monitor the efficiency, effectiveness and quality of systems in use and recommend improvements where necessary.

Events Contribute to the policy making process by participating in workshops, attending conferences and analysing reports regarding school music. Ensure broad participation and/or representation of regional schools and students in specialist programs and events including Fanfare, eisteddfods, festivals, Creative Generation Excellence Awards in Instrumental Music (MOST), and area music camps and workshops.

PARTNERSHIPS Actively seek and form partnerships with community groups, arts industry and tertiary institutions, parent groups, and other government agencies to further the goals of the instrumental music program. Deliver presentations to a range of committees, music organisations, and other groups regarding the necessary roles and responsibilities of music teachers in the primary and secondary curricula, and pedagogy. Remain futures oriented and strategic as an underlying strategy to further instrumental music goals. Maintain a thorough understanding of appropriate legislation and policies that impact on musical activities in schools. Represent the region at conferences, on committees and in other forums as required. Full registration or eligibility for full registration as a teacher in Queensland. This temporary role has been created with project funding. Continuation of the role beyond the advertised period is dependent on ongoing funding. The department prefers that school based classified officers serve a minimum of two (2) years from the date of appointment to the position and location.
