(1) On your own group activity In this semester, I joined in group three. Our group consists with seven members, from six difference country such as Japan, China, Egypt, Pakistan, and Indonesia. In the first meeting, we shared about our personal interest, hobby, etc. we also told about our country, our study background, and others things. At that moment we also decided to chose our chairman, and Mr Saegusa had been chosen as a chairman of group three. We discussed about some issues for our project in this semester such as population increasing problems, how to overcome nuclear power plant accident, artificial intelligence , new technology of battery, new material (smart material), human machine interface and quality management insurances. There were so many interesting topics to be discussed. After twice of meeting, we decided that human machine interface (HMI) as our central topics for this semester. Human machine interface is current issues in mechanical engineering knowledge since in our daily live, human machine interface increasing rapidly push by technology booming and dependability of human being in using of such of machine increasingly. Now days, it is very difficult for human to survive without machine, many side of our life depend on machine. So, for better life we tried to discussed of how to make a better relation between machine and human being.

Before mid semester we were investigates anything information about human machine interface such as definition, history of human machine interface, now days HMI technology, needs and importance of HMI, significant process of HMI. We also discussed about some problems and issues in human machine interface. Human-Machine Interface or HMI is the apparatus which presents process data to a human operator, and through which the human operator controls the process. Human Machine Interface (HMI) equipment provides a control and visual interface between a human and a process, machine, application or appliance. HMIs allow us to control, monitor, diagnose and manage our application. Some experts describe HMI as the part of an electronic machine or device which serves for the information exchange between the operator/user and the machine/device. HMI consists of three parts which are operating elements, displays, and an inner structure. Now days, HMI is becoming important issues in mechanical engineering. Human machine interface technology is more instinctive and more direct for human being. Engineer keeps trying to develop more advance application of HMI. But in our discussed, we found a several problems of HMI application such as machine too sensitive, human over trust of machines, combination between designers and users (how designer fulfill market needs), how to keep operator active since many machine run automatic, etc. After mid semester, we focus on HMI interface of cars. We discussed about the Problems of Interface of Cars and its solutions. Main problem are about some indicators of cars. We suggest a new solution for better interface in the cars such as transparent panel on front window and auditory interface. Some graphical technology interface and displays technology have been providing in many areas of application. This technology is also applicable in car interface. Graphical user interface provide an advantages such as provision of bigger view by using adaptive cruise control, dynamic organization of information, possibility of adding video clips. Display technology for graphical user interface already exist in many area of application such as touch panel devices, embedding screen in the wind glass, emissive projection display, and organic electro luminescence. Auditory system is the use of sound to communicate information

between a system (car) and the user (driver). Driver can control/command the system by the sound. The advantages of auditory system are minimizing workload of driver (tachometer, speedometer, stereo, temperature controls, cellular phone, gas meter, and road signs), a warning system (speed, oil/gas/lubricant condition, direction, Position), and Information System (GPS tracking maps, address, route, etc) By these technologies, we can drive without watching away from forward direction. We have been discussed some of alternative technology for car interface especially about friendliness interface for user. Finally, we made some conclusion of our discussion based on our suggestion technology application in case of car interface, such as graphics /pictures reinforce users learning abilities, graphical user interface is handy, easy to access and experience and has got potentials of memory building, audio-visual aid can help getting greater control of environmental elements and events, already developed guidelines, operators mental and physical health can be ensured, it seems to provide more than one candidate design solution. I think, we have a nice group with nice member, with so many creative ideas and good discussion. (2) On other groups activities Group 1 The main issue of this group was how to utilize of robot technology in nuclear accident/disaster. They suggest of application robot technology as an alternative to overcome problems in nuclear disaster. There are two main problems in case of utilized robots in disaster problems. First is technological problems and systematic problems. For the first problem, they suggested to continuous development of robot technology in order to fulfill requirements according to any nuclear disaster and they proposed a design of nuclear power plant encounter robots technology. The second problems, in case of Japan case, they suggest any legal organization that allowed for using robot in emergency case and they suggested Japan should develop a new robot technology in order to face future possibility of nuclear disaster. I think they do good job in investigates of robot technology and

development, and how to apply such technology in disaster. Group 2 This group discussed about house technology. I think they have a good idea, learning from nature for better human life. In this case they tried to explain how insect build their nest. It is very interesting for knowing that the insect has their `own technology` that we can learn from that to build our house. But some comments of professor important too that the way of insect life, was modify their self according to the nature on the other hand the way of human being is modify the nature encounter to their needs. But I think it is good for human being learn about good things from the nature. Nature has provided so many good things for human being. Even Human kind is most clever creature, but I think it is no wrong learn good things from animal, from nature even from insect. Group 4 Group 4 discussed about how to reduce earth quake risk. Existing technology of early warnings system of earthquake is not yet accurate, timeless and invalid sometimes. They introduced some technology to upgrades existing technology of early warning system. This group showed Bayesian methods in order to calculate earthquake probability. I think it is a very interesting method but in case of earthquake it is difficult to employ this method for accurate prediction. Many scientists try to developing a good method for accurate prediction, but it is still probability number. It is our concern to minimize victims when any disasters occur. Earthquake is not a new problem for human being, but until now it is still difficult for use to make accurate prediction of earthquake disaster.
