Severe Weather To Slow Drought


A strong trough will move into C Argentina next week bringing heavy rain and severe weather to some very dry areas. 1.50-2.00 inch rains are now shown to reach a large portion of Santa Fe, Entre Rios, Uruguay, Buenos Aires, and Cordoba, Monday-Thursday. Maximum totals of 5+ inches are possible.

The Palmer Drought Index (a measurement of precipitation and temperature) shows varying intensities of drought over S, SW, W and NW Argentina. Pockets of minor to moderate drought are also seen (as of January, 2012) over S Uruguay, NE Argentina and Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil.
