Anthem Essay Anthem is like a bunch of riddles put together to form one amazing piece of literature. Throughout the story there are certain phrases that are like riddles. Each of these riddles depicts a special meaning. They also keep readers thinking, Why is this mentioned in the story? The special phrases bring leads up to the theme, individuality. To begin with, To be free, a man must be free of his brothers, (Ch12) has a special meaning to it. For someone to be them self, to have individuality, they must learn to break free from the pack and refer to themselves, rather as a whole. An example of this is when Equality finds the house in the uncharted forest. He begins reading books from the dishonorable times and notices the people referred to themselves as I or me. It was when I read the first of the books I found in my house that I saw the word I . He began to follow how they referred to themselves and named himself and the Golden One as well. It is not proper for men to be without names . His name was Prometheus . It shall be your name. Her name was Gaea. It shall be my name. Also each person in that time does not have their own identity, because they are all a whole. He learns to break free from the whole. In retrospect, It is the mind which thinks, and the judgment of my mind is only the searchlight that can find the truth, (Ch11) is a tricky riddle. It means that the mind consists of many different segments, and his judgment is only a mere, small segment of his brain, but has a big operation, to find the truth. He compares it to a searchlight that can find out the truth of what is out there. Like a prisoner trying to escape. The searchlight can find out the truth of what the prisoner is up to. Equality finds out the truth about how the people used to live. I read many books what I had read and what I had learned. There was a time when each man He also found out how to refer to himself and how to be one person, himself, and not a whole.

Amid these phrases, And we thought we could trust this being who looked upon us from the stream, and that we had nothing to fear with this being, is one of the most complex. This quote means that Equality saw nothing wrong with himself as an individual, instead of a whole. This he saw while looking at his reflection in the stream. We knelt down by the stream and we... saw our own face for the first time. Prometheus also noticed that he was not the same as his brothers, that no one was equal, liked they were told. Our face was not like the faces of our brothers . Our body was not like the bodies of our brothers. In conclusion, Anthem is like a bunch of riddles put together to from a piece of art. The first quotes means that in order for someone the be them self, they must learn to break free from the pack. Equality learns how to refer to himself and names himself. The second quote means that the mind consist of many segments and judgment is just one of those segments. Also judgment is what finds the truth, like a searchlight. Finally, the last quote means that Equality saw nothing wrong with himself as an individual, instead of whole, while staring at his reflection in the stream. There is always a wider significance to what someone says, no matter what is said.
