HEMODYNAMIC MONITORING I. Provides quantitative information on: 1. Vascular capacity 2. Blood volume 3. Pump effectiveness 4.

Tissue perfusion * Swan-Ganz or pulmonary artery catheter

II. Parameters Available A. CVP Right atrial pressure or pressure in superior vena cava 1. Limited value doesnt measure Left heart pressures 2. Norms: 2 12 mm/Hg B. PAP evaluate Left vent. function 1. Gives systolic/diastolic and mean 2. Norms: Systolic: 15/25 ( mean 15 mm Hg) 3. PADP (normal 8-10mmHg) closely resembles PAWP! C. PAWPclosely approx. left atrial pressures and LVEDP. PAWP is a mean pressureranged 8-15mmHg D. CO-obtained via thermodilution (TD) A temp probe is in the end of the cath . 1. Method inject 5-10 ml iced saline into blue port (proximal port) - some are now continuosly monitoring CO, so no injectate is needed 2. Adult range 4-8 liters/min. 3. CI is better! 2.4-4 L/min E. SVO2- mixed venous oxygen saturation-can be monitored via fiberoptic lightgives overall picture of oxygen used by various organs and tissues. 1. Normal 60 80% mean 75% Review related sections in books. Numbers on this page are accurate for exam references. A-line-continuously monitors B/P and provides an avenue to obtain ABGs. Range is typically 10mmHg wider (higher & lower) than non-invasive cuff pressures.
