Welcome .................................................................................................................................................................... 2
Organisations Attending
Most of the recruiters participating in this event are not giving a presentation in Oxford this year, and this
may be your only chance to meet them informally.
Do your homework
Whatever stage you are at in considering a career, the fairs will be valuable with a little preparation:
Regardless of whether you are just beginning to consider what this sector offers, or know you want to
find work in it, then this event is for you. Don’t be afraid to approach representatives – they want to
meet you. In order to get the most out of the event, it is worthwhile considering what you want to know
before you approach them. For example:
• What are the differences between advertising, marketing, public relations and brand consultancy?
• What do account planners, account managers or creatives actually do?
• Insight into the organisation – what does it do, what training/prospects does it offer?
• Who are their clients and what work are they involved in?
• What are the pros and cons of their work?
• What ‘tips’ can they give to increase your chances of being selected for work experience or
employment?
• Possibilities for career progression?
Careers Advisers will be available if you are not sure who to speak to, or to discuss issues that may have
been raised or not met from attending this event.
We hope you enjoy this event and look forward to your comments in order to help us to plan for next year.
Not sure what people do in advertising, public relations, brand consultancy or marketing? Then come along
to one or more of the following talks led by professionals in these different aspects of the communications
sector to get an insight into the differences between advertising, PR, marketing and brand consultancy,
what do you actually do in this sector, roles that are open to graduates, pros and cons of the work to ‘tips’
for entry. There will also be opportunity for ‘Q & A’.
