Summary of Content

Effective planning and control structures combine human resources, IS/IT systems and appropriate strategies, methods and practices. The module emphasises a holistic approach to operations planning and control. Topics covered in the module include forecasting, aggregate and master planning, capacity planning and inventory management, S&OP, MRP/MRPII, ERP, TOC, decoupling and postponement and the design and organisation of the planning and control function. The context for much of the module is the extended enterprise, which includes consideration of supply chain, logistics and distribution issues. Provide knowledge and understanding of the managerial problems and issues that arise in the planning and control of operations in industrial operations in a supply chain context. Develop knowledge and understanding of the principal approaches, systems and techniques for planning and control of industrial operations in a supply chain context.
