SET Cased-hole System

In cased-hole environments, SET systems provide a solution to mitigate troubled casing intervals in onshore and offshore applications.
Elastomeric bands are attached to the top and bottom of the expandable liner that, when expanded, anchor the system to the base pipe. These elastomeric seals can also be placed at various intervals along the expandable liner in order to isolate specific zones. SET systems are expanded downhole providing a larger diameter than alternative remediation options. As a solid-steel liner, it is also a permanent and reliable means of sealing and reinforcing casing sections.

Field Applications
SET Cased-hole systems are most often installed to seal off perforations, damaged or corroded casing, or to reinforce casing. However, they have also been used in more novel applications such as expanded platforms for conventional packer installations and to reline entire wellbores. Operators have installed Cased-hole systems to control water, increase production, and reinforce casing. Because the burst strength of repaired wellbores is frequently higher than that of the original casing Cased-hole systems enable stimulation treatments, wellbore treatments, and hydraulic fracturing operations.

Technical Specifications and Details

The elastomeric bands on the anchoring joints can be supplied in a variety of compounds to compliment different downhole temperatures and fluids. They can also range in thickness thus sealing a variety of internal diameters (ID). Maximum Temperature Ratings Launchers: Assembled with VITON Elastomers = 400F (204C) Anchor Hangers: Assembled with NBR (Nitrile) 250F (122C) Assembled with VITON = 350F (177C) Assembled with AFLAS = 400F (204C) Pressure ratings Collapse and burst pressures are size dependent. Information on each system size is available on the SET Chart (which is available at www.EnventureGT.com). Other technical information Liner length is weight dependent and is calculated at the time of design. The longest Cased-hole System installed to date was a 6 x 7-5/8 in. system 6,624 ft (2,019 m) in length.

Proven Results
Challenge: Enable field-wide re-stimulation program by isolating perforations and enhancing wellbore integrity while retaining the hole size required by the hydraulic frac design. Solution: Install 4-1/4 x 5-1/2 in. expandable SET Cased-hole systems in lengths of 180 to 700 ft to achieve multiple goals. Older perforations in the higher formation are isolated and new zones in the three lower formations are hydraulically stimulating. Liners in the upper section provide a reliable means of isolation; in the lower sections they enhance wellbore integrity to protect old, corroded casing from the high pressures required by the frac treatment. This is achieved with minimal loss of inside diameter, enabling treatment at the desired rates. Value: Average production per well has increased to almost 15 bpd from initial rates of zero to 2 bpd. Entire remediation treatments are being paid out in just two or three months
