Background A distribu on centre based in the North West of England occupying a former asbestos processing factory. This global distribu on company is commi ed to managing asbestos in its non-domes c proper es. Following a review of a third party asbestos survey several areas containing high-risk asbestos containing materials were iden ed. The client recognises and is commi ed to providing a safe working environment for all employees and complying with current UK asbestos regula ons. The challenge facing this distributer was to assess the scale and nature of the problem quickly in order to take the appropriate ac on whilst maintaining a distribu on facility working to strict stock movement deadlines. Project Details Redhills were employed to carry out an urgent review of all asbestos informa on per nent to the sites and make recommenda ons. A Principal Consultant was able to a end site within a few hours of the ini al instruc on. On a endance to site lines of communica on were quickly established and a review of the history of the site and asbestos records undertaken. Following this thorough review, access was restricted as a precau onary measure whilst risk assessments were completed. All restric ons were fully communicated to the senior management team a er full consulta on with the site manager and clients health & safety team.

The Principal Consultant was seconded to the site for 5-6 days and was brought in as part of the dedicated team of senior managers engaged by the business to ensure the safety of the employees and engineer solu ons to maintain business con nuity. Immediate assistance came in the form of: An assessment of the scale and nature of the problem based on desktop review An ac on plan that dened the tasks and responsibili es of all stakeholders to address the issues iden ed on site Further inves ga ons throughout the site in order to gain comprehensive informa on to compile risk assessments Air monitoring for asbestos bres to test the eec veness of immediate control measures Formula on of bespoke risk assessments in conjunc on with the clients opera onal and maintenance teams Scope & specica ons for asbestos remedia on Consulta ve advise in liaising with regula on bodies All works were started within hours of the ini al review and completed within mescales assigned in the ac on plan. Piece of mind was provided to the client through prompt ac on and sound advice. Solu ons were engineered by the site opera ons team based upon the asbestos risk assessments compiled that enabled the site to remain opera onal whilst maintaining a safe working environment. In the weeks following the ini al ac ons on site, Redhills have been engaged to carry out full compliance monitoring during asbestos remedia on works.
