______ ____________________________________ / \/ \ | I. Introduction | \______/\____________________________________/ ____________________________________________ / \ | a. FAQ Intro | \____________________________________________/ Welcome to the my Harvest Moon: Friends of Mineral Town FAQ. Last April when the game was released in Japan I wrote the first version of the FAQ, which was for the imported version of the game. Although not much has changed, this is the second version of the FAQ. I am completely rewriting it from scratch... And although it means a delay before it has everything in it... It means that it will be four thousand times as good! Like before, if anyone has any suggestions or contributions (errors, tips, etc) you can email them to me! My email is ketay@comcast.net. UPDATE: Before you send me any emails, be sure to check the FAQ section of the guide! NOTE: If you send me some info on something, you may NOT get credit for it,

because I work on this often, and I may have already added what you send me. It just doesn't get updated on FAQ sites everyday, so you may not see the changes yet. Also if someone else emails me something first, they are the one who gets credit. ^.NOTE 2: If you are emailing me for help on the game, make sure you have search this WHOLE faq before you email me for help. I will ignore any emails that have questions which I know are answered in this guide. I will also ignore any questions that don't include enough detail. If you have a question, do not ask me: "How do I get a tool thing?" I will have no clue what you are talking about. Also, I tend to respond better to emails that use proper grammar, along with good spelling and no chatspeak. For example, this is an email I would probably ignore: _____________________________________________ | | | hi i need help!!!111 hOW DO I GET A TOOL | | THING???!?!?!?? | |_____________________________________________| And here is an example of an email that is visually pleasing, thus making me happy. ^._____________________________________________ | | | Dear Ketay, | | | | I am currently having problems with the | | game Harvest Moon: Friends of Mineral Town. | | I have thoroughly searched your guide but | | I cannot find info on where to obtain the | | item "White Grass". If you could help me in | | any way, that would be great. | | | | Sincerely, | | Your Name | |_____________________________________________| See how much better that one is? Does it have to be that formal? Well... No. But it has to be easily readable without me having to lower my IQ down by 50 points. The reason that I would like your emails to be in a better form is because

there is only so much time in the day. I'm still in high school as of me writing this (Sophomore) and I'm usually piled on with a lot of homework. Also, I have been getting a large amount of emails that wouldn't be worth my time to answer. So please, please don't send me emails asking things that are clearly stated in the guide MULTIPLE times. Thanks. =) ____________________________________________ / \ | b. Why I'm Writing This | \____________________________________________/ Why would a kid take dozens of hours of his free time to write a guide to help other people with the game? Well... I'm weird... Yes, that's right, I'm weird. ^.- But it's also because I enjoy writing guides for games. I'm not the best writer though, which is why I wouldn't want to be a writer by profession (Video Game Programmer, Here I Come!) But, it's something to do in my free time that I enjoy, and is quite simple. Also, all the emails I get thanking me for my help make me have a better day make me like to write guides. But I also do need help in writing guides, because I usually skip over things a lot, so be sure to send in your contributions! ______ ____________________________________ / \/ \ | II. Game Basics | \______/\____________________________________/ ____________________________________________ / \ | a. Storyline | \____________________________________________/ Harvest Moon: Friends of Mineral Town starts out with you visiting a farm. The Mayor stops by and tells you that the owner of the farm passed away recently, and he had left the farm to someone named what you name your character. You then remember back to when you were a little kid. You and your family lives in the city, but your family decides to take trip to the countryside. But you

seem to have wandered off, and you happen to find yourself at a farm. As you enter you meet the owner of the farm, an old lonely man who has no children. Soon your parents arrive and say it's time to go, but the man says that he is lonely and would like some company, so he invites you to the stay for a few days. Your parents agree, and soon you're spending the time having fun with the man. One day while you are out alone you meet a mysterious girl who asks you to tell her about yourself. Then it's time to go, and the girl becomes sad because you're leaving already. But she says that she'll be waiting, and that she would like him to return. The man then gives you his address and asks you to keep in contact with him by writing to him. His final words are: "I'll be waiting for your letter..." With that you are transported back to the present day, and back to the mayor with the floaty hat. And thus begins your taking care of your new property. ____________________________________________ / \ | b. Controls | \____________________________________________/ The controls for this game can get tedious, because each combination of buttons does something different. But with enough playing you'll have them down, and you'll no longer be whistling at people you are trying to give gifts to. (Unfortunately, I still do that. ^^) Location Of Controls (Normal GBA): _________________ / | | | | \ I/ _______ A | | B C | | D E | | F |_______| \J \ | H | | | /

You don't want to end up throwing the item away do you? ______ ____________________________________ / \/ \ | III. The Farm | \______/\____________________________________/ ____________________________________________ / \ | a. Clearing Your Field | \____________________________________________/ As soon as you leave your house and take a look at your farming area, you may notice something wrong... There's nowhere to plant any crops! Now that will be a problem won't it? So what do we have to do? Well, we need to do some cleanup. But first we need to know what we have to deal with: -=Weeds=Info: These are the green things that look like little clumps of grass that are all over. The easiest way of getting rid of them is to pick them up and throw them. This creates a problem though, because it gives you a lower chance of catching fish. The better way to get rid of them is to use your sickle. Using your sickle allows you to quickly cut down the weeds. If you upgrade your sickle later on, you can cut down more than one weed at once, and if you progress far enough, you'll be able to create a whirlwind that will cut down all the weeds on the screen. The only problem with using the sickle is that it takes energy to use the sickle. However, if you do use the sickle, it gives it experience, which will allow you to cut down the weeds faster. Required Tool: None / Normal Sickle Game Info: Grow in Spring and Fall. Should be removed. Image: Green clumps of grass.

Availability: Located only on your farm. They grow back randomly in the Spring and Fall. Usefulness: None -=Stones=Info: These are the small rocks that are littered about your farm. If you pick them up and press A, it will only result in you setting it down. To get rid of the stones without using energy though, you can take the stone to a body of water (such as the river near your farm) and throw it in. However, it is smart to use your hammer to get rid of them so as to get hammer EXP (experience). If you upgrade your tool to the Mythic level, you can destroy all the stones in the current map in a single blow. Required Tool: None / Normal Hammer Game Info: Can be smashed with or placed on tillable land. Image: Smallest gray rock. Availability: Located on your farm and in the mine (the stones found in the mine are different than in the farm, as they cannot be picked up with your hands. The mine ones will always be there, but once you destroy the ones on your farm they don't come back. Usefulness: Can be used to until tilled land. They are also a VERY good fence, because they don't rot in the rain. -=Rocks=Info: These large stones are a pain at the beginning because you can't break them with a level 1 hammer. Once you obtain a higher level hammer you can destroy these though. However, you aren't able to pick these up. Required Tool: Copper Hammer Game Info: Your hammer can't crush it unless it's LV2 or higher. Image: Medium gray rock (not clumped). Availability: Located only on your farm. Once gone they cannot be recovered. Usefulness: They get in your way? -_-;; -=Boulders=Info: These are also a pain because you can't destroy them until you have an even higher level hammer. The only purpose they serve is to annoy you. =) Required Tool: Silver Hammer Game Info: Your hammer can't crush this stone unless it's LV3 or higher. Image: Large clumped gray rocks. Availability: Located on your farm and on Mother's Hill. The farm ones do not come back, but the Mother Hill ones do.

Usefulness: Blocking your path. ^.-=Branches=Info: These are one of the few useful things on your farm. If you cut them up with your axe you will gain 1 piece of lumber. Lumber is a VERY useful resource because you need lumber to add onto your house. If you ever have extra time, you should cut down the ones not on your farm to get the lumber. Be careful though, unlike the rock, if you put it anywhere that isn't on your tillable land, it will disappear! O.O Required Tool: None / Normal Ax Game Info: Material for lumber. Can be places on tillable land. Image: Looks like a small brown log. Availability: Located on your farm and the forest. The farm ones do not come back, but the ones in the forest do. Usefulness: They give you lumber, a very useful resource. -=Stumps=Info: The best not good thing that you can find on your farm (good adjective usage eh?). These require you to have a level 2 axe to chop, and take multiple chops, but they give you a whopping 6 lumber. You want to chop the stumps located in the forest whenever you can! Soon you'll end up wishing you had an infinite supply of lumber if you don't get some everyday. Required Tool: Copper Axe Game Info: Your axe can't cut this stump unless it's LV2 or higher. Image: Looks like a... well... a stump... Believe it or not. XD Availability: Located on your farm, in the forest, and Mother's Hill. They all come back once you go to sleep, except the ones located on your farm. Usefulness: They give you six lumber. And you want all the lumber you can get! Okay, now that we got an idea of what's located on our farm, and how to get rid of it, we can start the cleaning process. The best idea is to just start off by cleaning off what is only in the upper left corner, allowing you to till 4 3x3 patches with 1 space between them all. Heres an example: Upper Left Of Field \ _\| [x][x][x][o][x][x][x][o] [x][x][x][o][x][x][x][o]

[x][x][x][o][x][x][x][o] [o][o][o][o][o][o][o][o] [x][x][x][o][x][x][x][o] [x][x][x][o][x][x][x][o] [x][x][x][o][x][x][x][o] [o][o][o][o][o][o][o][o] [o] Untilled Land [x] Tilled Land From that you can see that a square the size of 8x8 should be free in the upper left corner of the field. HOWEVER, this is not always possible because at the beginning there are stumps, rocks, and boulders in your way. Because of this you may have to go a little ways away from the upper left corner. For example, this is what you may end up having: Upper Left Of Field \ _\| [o][R][R][o][o][o][S][S][o][o][o][o][o] [o][R][R][o][o][o][S][S][o][R][R][o][o] [o][o][o][o][o][o][o][o][o][R][R][o][o] [x][x][x][o][x][x][x][o][o][o][o][o][o] [x][x][x][o][x][x][x][o][x][x][x][o][o] [x][x][x][o][x][x][x][o][x][x][x][o][o] [o][o][o][o][o][o][o][o][x][x][x][o][o] [B][B][o][x][x][x][o][o][o][o][o][o][o] [B][B][o][x][x][x][o][S][S][o][o][o][o] [o][o][o][x][x][x][o][S][S][o][o][o][o] [o][o][o][o][o][o][o][o][o][o][o][o][o] [o][o][o][o][o][o][o][o][o][o][o][o][o] [o][o][o][o][o][o][o][o][o][o][o][o][o] [o] [x] [R] [B] [S] Untilled Land Tilled Land Rock Boulder Stump

As you can see, you have to work around them, to find a place for 4 3x3 patches. TILLING THE LAND IS NOT PART OF CLEANING however. The tilled land is just to show you how it will be once it's planted, and to show you how much room you need. Once you get the upper left done, on the days afterwards if you have extra time and energy you should spend it clearing your field. Just be sure that if you want an invincible fence, you should keep all your stones so you can make

a fence with them. They act just like making a fence with lumber, but it takes no wood and never rots! A bargain in the HM world. ____________________________________________ / \ | b. Toolbox | \____________________________________________/ Your toolbox is located in your farmhouse, and it stores all your tools, seeds, and other items that you aren't carrying. However, it cannot store perishable items such as stones, crops, and flowers. When looking in your toolbox, the screen looks like the following: ________________________________ | ____________________________ | | | Tools | Tool Box | | | | [A] | 1/8<--[F] | | | | | | | [B][B][B][B]| [C][C][C][C] | | | | [B][B][B][B]| [C][C][C][C] | | | |_____________|______________| | | | [D][D][D] | | | | [E][E][E][E][E][E][E][E] | | | | [E][E][E][E][E][E][E][E] | | | |____________________________| | |________________________________| [A] Your equipped tool. [B] Your tool pocket in your rucksack. At the beginning it will only show 2 squares, but as you buy the larger rucksacks you will obtain more squares. [C] The tools in your toolbox. [D] Name of the selected tool. [E] Description of the selected tool. [F] The page you are on. You have 8 pages of tools with 8 slots on each space, allowing you to store a total of 64 tools. Although this seems like a lot, if you end of buying extra packs of the different types of seeds, and getting many of the 3 different types of gems, you will be surprised at how fast it fills up. Now that you know how the box stores tools, lets take a look at each of the tools. Note: To upgrade a tool it must be used a certain amount. The more you use it,

the more the percentage goes up. The needed percentages for the upgrades are: 0% 100% 200% 300% 400% Normal - Copper - Silver - Gold - Mystrile

If you have enough EXP to get to the next tool level however, it will not show your percentage. The bar going across tells you how far you are though. Once you get to the Mystrile level it may seem that you are at the highest tool level, but theres still THREE more levels. Thats right, three more levels. The first of those three levels is the cursed tools. These tools don't upgrade your current tools, they are stored as SEPARATE tools. These are SUPER powerful. So powerful they can destroy ALL the stumps on the current screen, or water a 13x6 rectangle. However, you can use them only about FIVE times before you run out of energy, and they also CANNOT BE UNEQUIPED without the help of Carter. To remove them you must pay Carter 1000G at the church in a confessional to get it off. The cursed tools are very hard to have all six of your tools at the Mystrile Winter Mine to a specific level. To find chart below. Make sure that you save on going to, just in case it isn't there. Many sure that you break every rock and dig find it. get however. First of all you must level. Next, you must dig down in the the level for each tool check the the level BEFORE the one you are times you won't find the tool. Make up every square on the mine level to

To get the next level of a tool you must go through a tedious task of blessing it, to uncurse it. To find the specific task for each tools check the chart below. Note: For the equip for 10 days you must equip it for ten days STRAIGHT. You may not equip it and re-equip it another time. HINT: For the "Use 255 Times" ones you can cheat by using it 255 times at a

festival. You have infinite energy at festivals so it makes it very easy, as to it's very hard being able to use it only 5 times a day normally. Once you have all of the blessed tools you can find the Mythic stones in the Spring mine. You must dig down to level 60, and from there on out you can find a Mythic Stone. If you take it along with 50,000 gold and your cursed tool, Saibara can smith it into the strongest tools available... Mythic. These are even MORE powerful than the blessed and cursed tools, and allow you to water a 31x15 square of plants, smash all the rocks on the screen, and more! Good luck on getting all 6 of these, it will take 30,000G and a LOT of time. [-] Axe - Used to chop up branches and stumps. [+] Normal [+] Acquired: You begin with this tool in your toolbox. [+] Mythic [+] Acquired: Upgraded by Saibara in the town. Costs 1 Mythic Stone and 50,000 G. [+] Effect Area: Waters a 31x15 square. All of your tools start out at level 1, but you can upgrade them all quite easily. Once you have used it enough, on your status screen it will no longer show the percentage and it will show the next one or more stones that you can use to upgrade it below the bar. For example: ___________________ |___________________| (C)(S)(G) (C) Copper Ore (S) Silver Ore (G) Gold Ore The highest level ore it shows is the highest level you can upgrade it to. If you use it enough without upgrading, you can skip a few levels and upgrade it directly multiple levels. The best way to utilize this is to use your watering can a lot without upgrading it and then direction skip to upgrading it to silver or gold. This way you don't waste money and time upgrading it to copper. To upgrade a tool take it to Saibara in the town. He's the first house located on the map directly above your farm. For 1000 to 5000 + one of the metal ore you need he will upgrade your tool. It may take a few days, so don't have him

upgrade at a time that you will be needing the tool. ____________________________________________ / \ | c. Farming | \____________________________________________/ Just by looking at the box for the game you can easily tell that this game is based upon farming. Yeah, there are ways to live and obtain money without ever even plowing your land, but lets face it, farming is the best way to get money. But before you begin you will need some area on your farm to plant with. If you'll look back to "Clearing Your Farm" (Section III. a) you'll find out how to get rid of those evil rocks and stumps. Now onto planting. Before you can toss the seeds into the ground and water them, you'll need to till the land. To till the land you'll need to retrieve your Hoe from your toolbox. Now when you till, you want to make a pattern so that you can go in and out of your crops and water them all. To do this you will want to make a "C" shape. Here is an example of one way to till the land: [o][o][o][o][o][o][o][o][o] [o][x][x][x][o][x][x][x][o] [o][x][x][x][o][x][x][x][o] [o][x][o][x][o][x][o][x][o] [o][o][o][o][o][o][o][o][o] [o][x][o][x][o][x][o][x][o] [o][x][x][x][o][x][x][x][o] [o][x][x][x][o][x][x][x][o] [o][o][o][o][o][o][o][o][o] [o] Untilled Land [x] Tilled Land When you till like this you can walk between all the patches of vegetables, and also water them all. If you till all 9 squares and don't leave one open, there will be no way to water the crop in the middle. However, once you get your Silver Watering Can you will be able to water the crop in the middle. But if you are planting crops that regrow then you may want to leave an open slot so that you can pick the middle crop without cutting down one of your plants.

TIP (Silver Watering Can Or Better Is Required): To make the most out of a bag of regrowable seeds, till all 9 squares in a 3x3 pattern and sow the seeds. Then as the season progresses water them all and pick the outside 8 plants and leave the middle one. On the last harvest of the season pick the outside 8 vegetables and then use your sickle to cut down one and pick the middle one. Although this only gets you a little extra money, it can add up if you plant a lot of crops. TIP 2: At the beginning of the game your horse won't be big enough to use his saddle as a shipping bin, and you won't have the basket, so the only thing you can put your crops in is the shipping bin outside your house. If you have the largest rucksack this won't matter much, but if you plant all of your crops in the upper left corner of the farm, you won't have to worry about going as far to ship the crops or refill your watering can. Now that you've tilled your land it's time to fetch some seeds. To get seeds you'll have to visit the Supermarket, located in the northern section of Mineral Town. The store is open from 9AM to 5PM everyday except for festival days, Tuesdays, and Sundays. If you enter you will find a table in the middle with some bags of seeds on it. Examine it and it will give you a list of seeds that you can buy. To find all the info about the seeds check the next section. Once you have boughten your seeds you can use them. When you use a bag of seeds you will throw them up and they will land on the square you are on and the 8 surrounding squares. For example: [o][o][o][o][o] [o][x][x][x][o] [o][x][C][x][o] [o][x][x][x][o] [o][o][o][o][o] [o] Tilled Land [x] Seeded Land [C] Your Character (Seeds Also Here) Because of this you should always stand in the middle of your 3x3 formation

when you sow the seeds. Once you have planted your seeds you will need to water them. Watering them may get tedious at first, but once you upgrade your watering can enough, it will be as easy as holding down the (B) button for a few seconds and watching the water fly. But when you begin you can only do once square at a time. To begin equip your Watering Can and go to a body of water. You can do it at a river, the sea, or the pond on your farm. Then go and stand facing the square you would like to water and hit the (B) button. This will water the square (or squares) directly in front of you. After a while you will run out of water and will need to refill your watering can. You do not need to water your crops when it is raining outside. The rain gives you a break and lets you have time to do other things. Once you have watered your crops, you will have the continue watering them for a few days. The amount of time varies depending on what vegetable you are growing. Once the crop has completely grown you will be able to pick it and put it in your shipping bin. Then at 5 PM Zach will pick up the items and pay you for everything in your bin. If you pick a crop that is a regrowable crop, it will go back a few stages, and you'll be able to continue watering it until it produces more food. If it's a one time growth crop then it will disappear and you'll have room to replant more seeds in that area. Be careful though, if you have crops that are growing and the seasons change, all your crops will die and you'll have to use your sickle to cut them down! ____________________________________________ / \ | d. FAQ | \____________________________________________/ I've been getting dozens of emails on the same subject, so I decided to add a FAQ to answer many of those questions. Many of them will point you to other parts of the guides, if I recently added that, because it's better to redirect you instead of stating it twice. -----------------------------------------------------How do I break the giant rock on Mother's Hill? -----------------------------------------------------The rock on Mother's Hill cannot be broken by anything below a cursed tool. Meaning you need a cursed, blessed, or mythic tool to smash the rock. For info on getting those, check the tools section of the guide. -----------------------------------------------------How do I get the Cursed/Blessed/Mythic tools!? -----------------------------------------------------Check the tools section. ^_^ Thats what it's there for. -----------------------------------------------------_______ won't get a higher heart color!? How do I get her to like me!? ------------------------------------------------------

The girls in this game are harder to woo than in the other games. The best way to get about it is to give them presnts that they like. The easiest girl to get to like you is Karen, because you can buy a few hundred flours from her shop to get her level up. However, it gets a bit harder after the blue heart. Popuri likes eggs, so it's best to upgrade your coop, get 8 chickens, and give her a few eggs everyday. The rest of the girls have a variety of tastes. Just remember to be patient, talk to them everyday, and give them 1 - 2 gifts everyday. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Where can I find the power berries!? -----------------------------------------------------The location of the Power Berries are: 1. Is Found Randomly By Tilling The Land On Your Farm 2. Win The Horse Race 3. Can Be Boughten For 900 Medals At The Horse Races 4. Order On Saturdays On The Shopping Network For 10,000G 5. Found On Floor 19 Of The Winter Mine 6. Throw Items Grown On Your Farm To The Harvest Goddess 10 Times (Once Per Day) 7. Found Behind The Entrance To The Winter Mine 8. Win The Dog Frisbee Contest 9. Fish It Out Of The Ocean With A Mystrile Or Better Fishing Rod 10. Found On The 100th Floor Of The Spring Mine -----------------------------------------------------Cliff left! How do I get him back!? -----------------------------------------------------If he leaves there is no way to get him to come back. However, you can restart your game and prevent him from leaving the second time. To get him to stay you must ask him to help pick berries for the Aja Winery on Autumn 14th. Then go to the Winery on the 15th at 10:00AM and pick the berries. Cliff will then be offered a full time job there. Then he will have enough money to continue living in the inn in Mineral Town. -----------------------------------------------------Gotz won't build anything for me! -----------------------------------------------------Sometimes Gotz will go into a slump and he will not build anything. You must give him gifts for awhile to get him to like you enough. It can take awhile,

so try to give him a couple things he likes every single day. -----------------------------------------------------How do I carry more items in my Rucksack!? -----------------------------------------------------You can buy a larger rucksack in the Supermarket for 3,000G. It will hold 4 items instead of 2. Then one week later they will get the largest rucksack in stock and you can buy it for 5,000G. This holds EIGHT items, which is a very helpful item to get early on. It's especially helpful since the beginning of the game requires you to scavenge for items to sell until you get enough to live off of growing plants ______ ____________________________________ / \/ \ | VII.
