Tecaform AH black (Acetal Copolymer POM C)

Tecaform (acetal resin) is a highly versatile engineering plastic with metal-like properties, it offers an excellent balance of desirable properties that bridge the gap between metals and ordinary plastics. Tecaform black machining is capable of CNC machining, CNC milling, CNC turning, and fabrication services. Since its introduction in 1960, acetal polymer has been widely used around the world in many application, such as in the automotive, appliance, hardware, electronic and consumer goods industries. Tecaform has gained widespread recognition for its reliability and performance in thousands of engineering components.

Properties and Characteristics Tecaform (POM-C) black acetal is known for its
High strength and stiffness (MOE 2600 MPa) compare to PA 6.0 (MOE 1600 MPa) Ease of machining (no microporosity) Dimensional stability (low moisture absorption 0,2%). Low coefficient of friction (0,35) compare to PA 6.0 (0,45). Low moisture absorption (0,2%) compare to PA 6.0 (9,5%) Low wear/ inherent self-lubricity Good electrical insulating characteristics because moisture has minimal effect of POM-C electrical properties (volume resistivity 1013 xcm) compare to PA 6.0 (because of high water absorption volume resistivity 1010xcm) Excellent resistance to gasoline, solvent, and many other neutral chemicals Better resistance to hot water and strong caustic high pH (basic) solution range of 5-9 Tecaform black is best suited for close tolerance mechanical parts. The added ethylene linkages of acetal copolymer increase the thermal stability, elongation, toughness and better impact properties

Chemical resistance characteristics

One of the outstanding properties of POM-C is excellent resistance to a variety of organic compounds. Acetal resin have good load carrying ability in many neutral organic and inorganic materials, even at elevated temperatures. Acetal resin exhibits good dimensional stability and chemical resistance to the following : Alcohols Aldehydes Esters Ethers Hydrocarbons (gasoline, lubricants, hydraulic fluids) Agricultural chemicals Many weak acids and weak bases The load carrying ability of POM-C or any plastic material, will depend on the following factors : Nature and concentration of the chemical Temperature Stress level Time of chemical exposure at given stress level

Effect of Specific Chemicals

Unstressed specimen of POM-C were expose to a variety of chemicals for periode up to one year and temperature up to 93C

Solvents
POM-C is exceptionally resistant to solvents retaining over 90% of its tensile stress after exposure to almost all solvents. Lubricants and Hydraulic Fluids. POM-C generally has good resistance to base oils. The presence of chemical additives in some oils may have a marked effect on performance, particularly at temperatures above 66C.

Gasolines
Tensile strength of Delrin acetal resin is essentially unaffected by exposure to gasoline. Stiffness can be reduced a moderate amount, depending upon the concentration of aromatic hydrocarbons in the fuel. This slight plasticizing effect is completely recoverable if exposure is terminated and the hydrocarbons allowed to evaporate

Agricultural Chemicals pom piston in steam air engine

POM-C has excellent resistance to agricultural chemicals such as commercial types of insecticides, fungicides, and fertilizers.

Acids, Bases, and Oxidizing Agents

POM-C has good resistance to many weak acids and weak bases. It is not suitable for service in strong acids, strong bases, or oxidizing agents. Thus, they are not recommended for uses outside of pH range 4-9. Furthermore other components in water may react with acids and bases and affect the resistance characteristics.

POM-C VS POLYAMIDE (Nylon) in dimensional stability

Because acetal absorbs minimal amounts of moisture (0,05%), its physical properties remain constant in a variety of environments. Low moisture absorption results in excellent dimensional stability for close-tolerance machined parts. In high moisture or submerged applications, acetal bearings outperform nylon 4 to 1. Acetal is ideally suited for close tolerance mechanical parts and electrical insulators which require strength and stiffness. It also offers resistance to a wide range of chemicals including many solvents. Polyamide absorbs high amount of moisture (9-10%), its poor for dimentional stability and decrease physical and mechanical properties.
