2012 ANNUAL TARGETS - MATHS


TARGET FOR RAISING STUDENT ACHIEVEMENT IN MATHEMATICS Koputaroa School Charter Strategic Goals: Goal 1: To focus on high quality learning and teaching and to encourage and support the growth of Tikanga Maori. Goal 3: To sustain, grow and further encourage whanau and community partnerships within our rural environment (whanaungatanga). Goal 5: To engage in regular self review to monitor and evaluate areas.

Strategic Objectives: - Support, promote and improve teacher effectiveness and pedagogy. - Identify and support those students below or well below the National Standard. - Sustain our focus on increasing the achievement in maths for all our children. - Use a variety of assessment tools to monitor, evaluate and identify the strengths and next learning steps of our children. Curriculum Area: Mathematics/Numeracy Key Competencies: - Using Language, Symbols and Texts - Thinking - Managing Self - Participating and Contributing - Relating to Others Tenets from our Charter that we aim for our children: - be confident, independent learners - be self-motivated and self-managing - be inquisitive, creative learners who take risks and can problem solve Annual Aims: - Review the planning and delivery of numeracy and mathematics at Koputaroa School. - Focus on the planning, introduction and delivery of strand maths (geometry, statistics, measurement) - Increase the number of students achieving At or Above the National Standard for mathematics. - Monitor and increase the progress of all children with their achievement in mathematics.

2012 Annual Achievement Target:

To increase and raise the number of Year 5, 6, 7, 8 students achieving At or Above the National Standard by the end of 2012. When compared to the number of Year 4, 5, 6, 7 students who had achieved At or Above the National Standard in 2011 and reducing the number who had achieved Below or Well Below the National Standard in 2011. To increase and raise the number of Year 6 and Year 7 girls achieving At or Above the National Standard by the end of 2012. When compared to the number of Year 6 and Year 7 girls who had achieved At or Above the National Standard in 2011 and reducing the number who had achieved Below or Well Below the National Standard in 2011. All children to make progress towards being At or Above the National Standard by the end of the year.

Baseline Data: Analysis of our 2011 data showed that we had 4/12 (33%) of Year 4 children, 7/27 (26%) of Year 5 children, 4/11 (37%) of Year 6 children Below or Well Below the National Standard, with 4/24 (17%) of Year 7 children Well Below the National Standard. Analysis of our 2011 data showed that we had 5/15 (33%) Year 5 girls and 4/7 (57%) of Year 6 girls who achieved Below or Well Below the National Standard. Planned Actions
- Review of planning, teaching and delivery of Numeracy and Mathematics. Focus on the introduction and sustaining of Strand to ensure knowledge and skill is linked and embedded. - Deliberate Acts of Teaching according to the Numeracy Framework, Koputaroa Maths Overview and New Zealand Curriculum. - Use of National Standards resources as exemplars of learning. - Focused Team and Leadership Meetings on student progress and achievement. - Staff Meetings focused on professional development and support in mathematics. - Monitoring of children who require further assistance and support. - Employ a Support Teacher to assist with those children who require additional support in Maths. - Purchase resourcing to support the development of maths programmes. - Use of NZ Maths on-line workshops supporting development with the use of National Standards exemplars.
