The first week of school has flown by and it is fantastic to see how well our new students are settling in at MIS. We are really happy to have you all here and look forward to a great year together. We also look forward to seeing many parents at the Meet the Teacher evening which will take place on Wednesday 22nd February at 7.00pm starting in our school hall. No appointments are necessary. Last Friday we held our Powhiri to welcome new students and staff to the school. This was a very successful ceremony and we would like to thank the families who were able to come along and support this event. Thank you to the families who have already paid their school payments and donations; this is very much appreciated. Invoices will be given out to students who have not yet paid early next week; please contact the school office if you do not receive it.

An opportunity to host a Japanese student

Every year our school is one of a number in the Waikato area which hosts visiting students from Japan when they stay in New Zealand during March. They will be arriving Thursday March 15th and departing Tuesday March 27th. This is an excellent opportunity to take part in a cultural exchange and for your child to make friends with a student from a very different culture from our own. The costs of hosting the students are reimbursed through a hosting grant and there should be no significant cost to any family taking up the opportunity to host a student. If you would like any further information please call the school office on 07 889 6629.

MI-Mates Meeting
Our first MI Mates Meeting will be held on Tuesday 21st February at 7.00pm in the school staff room. This is our school fundraising committee who meet on a monthly basis. This is a great way to get to know more about our school and meet other school families. Parents of new students are very welcome!

Upcoming Netball Dates

All players need to bring sneakers, snacks and a water bottle to both trials.

At present we are organising a year 7 and year 8 pre-season netball muster with Dale Atkinson from Netball Waikato. These will be free lunch-time sessions held before our trials, with dates still to be confirmed. We will be holding a meeting at school for all students wishing to play netball this season and they will be told the dates then. For this to happen, we need coaches to attend. As we haven't done our trials etc yet, if you are willing to coach one of our many teams this year, please contact the school office on 889 6629. We will need 10 coaches / helpers on these muster days.

School Swimming Carnival

Students are currently attending swimming sessions with their team at the Morrinsville Recreation Grounds. Our school Swimming Carnival will also be held at the Recreation Grounds on Wednesday 7th March, this will be an all day event for our confident swimmers who are capable of swimming competitively. Parents and caregivers are very welcome to come along and support the swimmers throughout the day. There will be a sausage sizzle available on the day for students and supporters. Drinks and frozen juicies will also be on sale. We will also require parent help with time-keeping on the day. If you are able to help out for any part of the day please phone the school office on 889 6629. Thank you.

Weekly School Newsletters Newsletters go home every Thursday. We would prefer to email them home to save paper and printing costs; if this is possible please contact the school office or email m.cook@mi.school.nz with your childs full name and the email address you would like them sent to.
