Atm AUTOMATION

ABOUT PROJECT Automation of ATM: The project has been developed using Visual Basic as Back End and MS-Access and the front End. It deals with ATM Banking. For any bank and atomatic teller machine would be necessary since banks would not be open 24 hourse. In order to help the account holder to either withdraw the money or to even deposit the money during anytime of the day and ATM would cater to the needs. The ATM has facilities to withdraw and deposit the money during anytime of the day ie 24 hours even if the bank is closed. Maintenance of the account holders details, his minimum balance and current balance and would be an important factor and needs to be updated in his account immediately after every transaction takes place. Also the system should be able to indicate whether the account holder is having minimum balance or not when ever the account holder tries to withdraw amount exceeding the amount. Hence the automation of the ATM system caters to the need of customer who do transactions 24 hours even when the bank is closed. Here ATM automation is done for Bank. The automated ATM system would have the following facilities:

1. Add a new account holder: 1. Maintain the details of the customer and view the records of customers. The administrator can only carry out this job of creating new account holders and and maintaining their personal details. No other user can access this part of the system. When adding new account holders for new customer, simply select administrator from the menu. And by entering the password the new account holder entry form appears. A new account number code will be provided by the Automated ATM system. All necessary information regarding the new account holder may be entered. Simply follow all instructions displayed on screen to perform the operation. 2

2. Account Holder If an account holder wants to carry out the transactions he may first enter his account number provided to him and then enter the pass word and then enter the transaction form. The transaction form contains various operations like:withdraw, deposit, status, details, back to main screen and logout. 1. Withdraw: An Account Holder may perform the operation of withdraw by clicking on the respective button. Immediately another option which asks the account holder to enter the amount of withdrawal is displayed. account holder the enter the withdrawal amount and the checking whether there is minimum balance of rupees 5000 and the current balance are checked by the system. The transaction of withdrawal is completed only if the conditions are satisfied ie., the minimum balance should be 5000 rupees and the withdrawal amount must not exceed the current balance. 2. Deposit: The account holder may deposit any amount in to his account by clicking the deposit button when the system asks the account holder to deposit the amount in to his account and then by clicking the ok button the transaction is completed. 3. Status: This displays the account holders information like: his id balance, minimum balance and the account type at any given time. This helps the account holder to keep track of hyis current balance details at any given time. 4. details: This displays the account holders number, name, address, phone email id, current balance, minimum balance and the account type at any given time. 5. Back: This leads the account holder to the previous login option. 6. Logout: The operation. account holder may logout at any given time during the

SYSTEM ANALYSIS AND DESIGN (SAD) In business, SAD refers to the process of examining a business situation with the intent of improving it through better procedures and methods. OVERVIEW OF SAD: System development mainly consists of two major components, System analysis and System design. System Design is the process of planning a new business system or one to replace the existing or a complement system. But before planning is done, the process of understanding the old system and to determine the best use of the computer is an exercise, which is available. System analysis is the process of gathering interpreting facts, diagnosing the problem and using information to recommend improvements to the system. EXISTING SYSTEM

Place of Data collection:

Reliance Computers No. 456, I Floor, 9th Cross, 80 Feet road, 2nd Phase, J.P. Nagar Bangalore-560078.

Date of Data Collection: 25-November-2004 Methods used for data collection Interview and observations of existing system (manual system). Observations made during problem analysis We found that the records maintained contained redundant data, which could be eliminated through computerized system. Access to particular database is time consuming and difficult. Updating any one database would have to be manually reflected in all other related databases. So automatic updating was not possible throughout the database. Report generation and querying is tedious and time consuming. Security was not viable and safe i.e., high risk of manipulation by unauthorized user existed. Various objects/entities existing and their relationships were identified.

PROBLEM DEFINITION Presently in the manual system, it is difficult to maintain all records. The records maintained, contained redundant data, which could be eliminated through computerized system. Access to particular database is time consuming and tedious. Moreover, updating any one database would have to be manually reflected in all other related databases. So automatic updating was not possible throughout the database. Report generation and querying is tedious and time consuming. Security was not viable and safe i.e. high risk of manipulation by unauthorized user is there. PROPOSED SYSTEM We observed many defects in the existing manual system, which also lacked many features. The proposed system aims at eliminating all problems observed in the existing system, during system analysis phase. The proposed system will accept the account holders number, check for validity and allow him to carry out transactions like deposit and withdrawal of amount. The account holder will not be able to withdraw unless he maintains the necessary balance. The administrator may create new accounts for new account holders. OBJECTIVES: Eliminating data redundancy and improving system deficiency. Easy and quick access to database and easy updating. Effective and fast report generation. Reliable and no risk security features. User friendliness.

SYSTEM DESIGN

A computer procedure is a series of operations designed to manipulate data to produce a computer system. The procedure may be a single program or a sequence of programs. The detailed design of the computer procedure follows acceptance by management of an outline design proposal. The aim now is to design procedure at lower levels of detail, which will define the detailed steps, to be taken to produce definitions together with data specifications for programmers for which requires programs can be written. Design Tools System analysts use various tools to specify compute procedures. Not all of them are used to design this project. Some of the design tools used are: 1. Input Design 2. Error avoidance and Detection 3. Output Design Input Design Input design is a part of overall system design, which requires careful attention. Often the collection of input data is the most expensive process of the system. One of the early activities of input design is to determine the nature of the input data. If data going into the system is incorrect, then the processing and the output will magnify the errors. One of the early activities of input design is to determine the nature of the input data. This is done partially in logical system design but it now needs to make more explicit.

12

Integrated Business Management Error avoidance and detection Every effort must be made to ensure that input data remains accurate from the stage at which it is recorded and documented to the stage of acceptance. While every effort is made to avoid errors during the presentation of input data, a proportion of errors are likely to be present. This project Integrated Business Management restricts user from entering erroneous data. Data Validation Computer input procedures must also be designed to detect errors in the data at a lower level of detail that is beyond the capability of the control procedures. These are combined with the design of the input process itself. The validation procedures must be designed to check each record, data item or field against certain criteria specified by the systems analysts or the programmer. Each type or record had codes to be checked for acceptability. Output Design Outputs from computer systems are required primarily to communicate the results of processing to users. They are also used to provide a permanent copy of these results for later consultation. Any data not yet defined must be identified and recorded before any output design can proceed. The outputs can be in the form of operational documents, reports, and replies to queries or summarizing graphs.

13

OPERATIONAL DEFINITIONS AND CONCEPTS: CONNECTION: A connection according to Visual Basic is a link that is created between a connection object and the database so as to bring the data from the backend to the front-end application. CONNECTION OBJECT: A connection object is an object which establishes a connection to the database be it a local file or a remote SQL server. COMMAND OBJECT: A command object is an object, which executes commands against the database and is basically used to manipulate the data present. ADO CONNECTIVITY: We create a connection to a data source by setting the connection property of the ADO data control. The property specifies the type and location of the database and that we need to access. RECORD SET: The object holds the results of execution of the command object on a database. Record sets can be created without any explicit Connection. The record set is a set of records, which is connected to the database by the record set object. DATA ENVIRONMENT: The Data Environment Active X designer has helped us to design a connection and command hierarchy with points and click operations. The records retrieved by the command object can be dropped on a form where they are mapped to data bound controls.

14

DATA REPORT: Generating hierarchical multi-page reports with running totals (such as report for the data retrieved by the command hierarchy) and the data report designer does print them properly. PESSIMISTIC LOCKING: Pessimistic locking is a sure but very restricted method with pessimistic locking all the pages that contain the records we have requested are locked. No one else can modify them. (But they can read them) RECORD COUNT: The no of records retrieved is returned by the record count property. TABLE: Table is a set of records. ENTITY: The basic object that the E-R Model represents is an Entity, which is a thing in the real world with an independent existence. ATTRIBUTES: A property that describes an entity is an attribute. DATABASE: Database is a data repository, which contains the set of inter- related data items. PRIMARY KEY: A candidate key whose values are used to identify tuples in a relation is known as primary key. Each primary key value for a record is unique in nature.

15

MEHODOLOGY OF STUDY The methodology of study applied is Prototyping model. This model suggests that a prototype of the existing system was prepared along with the code design and testing but each of this phases is was not done thoroughly. After the approval of the client the actual development of the software began and tested for its accuracy.

ACCESS ACCESS is the acronym for relational Database Management System. We know the concept of Relational Database only since 1980's. But the idea of the database Management System is definitely quite old. The most prominent RDBMS packages are ORACLE, SYBASE. A DBMS stores, processes and retrieves data. A Relational Database is a collection of related data.

Data storage in a computerized system in every business enterprise maintains large volumes of data for its operations. With more and more people accessing this data for their work the need to maintain its integrity and relevance increase. Normally, with the tradition methods of storing data and information in files the changes that the data uses its integrity and validity are very high. It is a relational database management systems (RDBMS). It offers the capabilities of relational systems. The database server or backend is used to managed data base tables optimally among multiple clients use concurrently request the server for the same data it also enforces data integrity across all client applications and controls data base access the other security requirements. INTERNAL DATA TYPES:Char Data Type:- The Char data type can store alphanumeric values. Varchar2 Data Type:- The Varchar2 data type can store alphanumeric values. Long Data Type:- Its length would be restricted based on memory space available in the computer. Number Data Type:- The number data type can store positive numbers, negative, zeros, fixed point numbers and floating point numbers.

SYSTEM TESTING AND IMPLEMENTATION

Testing and Debugging To ensure that the system works properly, the programs will have to undergo several process of testing. Testing of the computerization system is one of the crucial periods. The program designed and written may be syntactically and semantically correct but logically incorrect or may be in another order. The programs may work well for some time but will be faced by lots of bugs floating hence giving trouble to the user. It is therefore recommended to remove the maximum of those bugs as possible. This can be achieved by carrying out particular a series of testing to ensure the perfect running of the system.

System Testing After the link testing, the application will be tested with real-life data. The system testing will be accomplished with the help of the user. Hence, the remaining bugs will be completely removed. Some realistic data will be placed in the master file and the testing will be carried out.
