Why does it emerge? Feudalism : political + social system, decentralized govt. POWER VACCUUM! - monarchs are not powerful. Needed protection from invasions; How it works? arrow = land Kings Lords Vassals Knights For Peasants : land = food,shelter ( EVERYTHING ) Also receive protection and in return give labor,taxes,military service to nobility. Key Characteristics Rigid hierarchy : Provides stability + order in the chaotic world & sense of security. Limits Social Mobility. Manorilism : Self sufficients (everything they like is given) safe space & land = wealth Economic System of Feudalism : agricultural ( goods that can be produced ) Life on the Manor Predictable + Dull work,sleep,eat,pray EVERYDAY NO FREE TIME = NO ADVANCEMENTS in learning Role of RCC in Feudal Europe Became the governing face Brought peace + stability. (ORDER) Ends feudal warfare. Canon Laws + Court : religious teachings + moral. Provide social services. Unity ; christians. Preserved the ancient texts of Rome + Greece.
