The Issue: People are being sold as commodity in our world today. There are an estimated 27 million people who are living in modern day slavery (more than at the time of the Civil War). As many as 800,000 individuals are trafficked across international borders and forced into labor, prostitution, and/or military service. Of those 800,000, 80% are believed to be women and children. Jesus said, Whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did it for me. The Opportunity: In an effort to raise awareness on the issue of Human Trafficking as well as raise funds for Christian Ministries seeking to rescue and rehabilitate modern day slaves around the world, 7th-12th grade students have the opportunity to become slaves for a day. Heres how it works:

Student volunteers to be purchased. (Deadline Feb. 12)

Adult family, friend, or church member purchases student. (Feb. 26-March 25)

Purchased students become a slave for a day, doing whatever work the purchaser has for them. (April 14)

Purchasers donations for work done goes to ministries fighting to end modern day slavery.

The Commitment:
You need to be willing to commit to the following:
Fill out/turn in the Enslave Me Registration & Parent Release form on or before Sunday, February 6. You (and your parents if they wish) contact your purchaser ahead of time for arrangements. You will be contacted by March 27 with contact information concerning who has purchased you. Give your Saturday, April 14, 8 a.m.-4 p.m.. You must be willing to do whatever work is asked of you by your purchaser. You may be working for your purchaser, or your purchaser may send you to work for someone else. In an effort to feel some of the pain of being a slave, you will only be fed water and very basic rations. You will only take a cell phone with you to communicate finish/pickup times.

Partnerships: We will partnering with several local Ministries who will be able to accept workers on April 14. Purchases may chose to send those theyve purchased to work at these ministries for the day.

To Parents:
We hope this to be an experience where the student gets a small feeling of what it likes to be a slave. Yet, to give the purchaser a confidence in quality work being accomplished, as well as giving parents a peace of mind on the day, the following boundaries are in place: If purchased for work at the purchasers home, there must be at least 2 Jr. High students of the same gender purchased (basically, we are not allowing Jr. High students to work alone). You will receive name and contact number of purchaser by Tuesday, March 27 in order to communicate prior to the work day to find out what kind of work, as well as get to know purchaser. You may reserve the right to contact Student Ministries Staff if you elect to have your student not participate if you have any concerns over purchaser. Payment for service will not be made till after work is completed. Transportation to/from work place will be provided if the purchaser has elected to send the student to one of our Partnership Ministries. Otherwise, parent/student will need to be present for the 8:00-8:45 a.m. gathering at NMC, then provide transportation to and from the purchasers residence. (Basically stated, we arent going to have the purchaser transporting your student). Any further questions or concerns, please contact either Pastor Chris or Pastor Derry at the church (574)773-7773.
