* * * ATTENTION STUDENTS * * * NON-DISCLOSURE OF "DIRECTORY INFORMATION" The Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act of 1974, popularly known as the "Buckley Amendment" and carrying the acronym "FERPA," governs the University's collection, retention, and dissemination of information about students. (The document appears in the Student Handbook.) One category of information covered by FERPA is called "directory information." Pacific Lutheran University has designated the following items as directory information: student name, local and permanent addresses and telephone numbers, E-mail address, date and place of birth, participation in officially recognized activities and sports, weight and height of members of athletic teams, dates of attendance, class standing, previous educational agency or institution(s) attended, major and minor fields of study, anticipated date of graduation (if that has not yet occurred), and degree(s) and award(s) conferred (including dates). The PLU FERPA policy appears on the Student Handbook website for your review at: http://www.plu.edu/student-handbook/code-of-conduct/FERPA.php. Under FERPA the University may disclose directory information without prior written consent unless an "eligible student" (18 years or over) or a parent (if the student is under 18 years of age) gives notice in writing to the contrary to the Office of the Vice President for Student Life restricting the disclosure of the directory information, as it pertains to the student, by the last day of registration for any given academic term at this University. Please be assured that PLU uses discretion when releasing information (e.g. roommate notification or compliance with federal requirements.) If you participate in activities such as music or drama performances, athletics or represent PLU in other public capacities, University policy is to issue minimal information in press releases. If it is your wish that PLU NOT disclose "directory information" about you under any circumstance, you must come to the Student Life Office, Hauge Administration Building, Room 105, on or before February 22, 2012 to complete the appropriate form and meet with Laree Winer to understand fully the impact of the restriction. This restriction will remain in effect until the 10th day of the fall semester of the next academic year, unless you revoke it in writing.

RANDOM FACTS!
NO SERIOUSLY LIKE REALLY RANDOM
The Liberace Museum has a mirror-plated Rolls Royce; jewel-encrusted capes, and the largest rhinestone in the world, weighing 59 pounds and almost a foot in diameter. (EPIC!) A car that shifts manually gets 2 miles more per gallon of gas than a car with automatic shift. Cats can hear ultrasound. Dueling is legal in Paraguay as long as both parties are registered blood donors. The highest point in Pennsylvania is lower than the lowest point in Colorado. The United States has never lost a war in which mules were used. Children grow faster in the springtime.

Hello fellow students and faculty! We have officially started this years Recycle Mania Competition, and we are off to a great start! For those of you who dont know, PLU is participating in a friendly competition to promote the importance of recycling on campus, and the development of a sustainable lifestyle. Over 600 college campuses throughout the US and Canada are participating, so we need everyones help in order to compete! There are literally hundreds of places to recycle around campus, so look around before you throw something away. You can help PLU win this competition by always recycling and composting your bottles, cans, paper, and food containers. So far, we as a campus are recycling 65% of all the materials that leave our environmentally conscious campus! A great start, but the leading campus is up to 72%, so we need everyones help in order to catch up. Recycle Mania started February 8th, and continues to March 31st. Here are some up coming event dates if you wish to become more involved: Garbology: Just like it sounds, it is the study of garbage! Each resident hall will have its own garbology lab in the upcoming weeks, teaching students what is and is not recyclable and compostable. An interesting event you dont want to miss! Check with your RD or Sustainability Director to find out your halls Garbology date. Sculpture Contest: Think you are the Picasso of Plastics? Now you can prove it! PLU is hosting a contest to see who can make the best sculpture out of recyclable materials. Official contest rules and dates will be posted at the beginning of March, so keep on the lookout, and start thinking of sculpture ideas! Were off to a great start PLU, but we know we can do better! With your help, we can make our campus the most sustainable college on the continent, talk about bragging rights! More updates on how you can help and participate will be posted everyone Wednesday, so be sure to read your Daily Flyer, and remember to recycle!
