The Bachelor of Science degree consists of a curriculum founded in academic disciplines which include the liberal arts, business, science, and specialized courses in theoretical and practical managerial components for the hotel and restaurant industry. WHATS SPECIAL ABOUT THE PROGRAM?

AREAS OF EMPHASIS AT DELAWARE

The Hotel, Restaurant & Institutional Management program prepares students for rewarding careers in the hospitality industry.

The HRIM program is limited to 400 students. A selective admissions process, coupled with enrollment limitations, ensures that students learn to network with each other and allow the faculty to provide the personal attention students need for professional growth and development. The program can be characterized as large enough to lead, small enough to care. Our Swiss partner school, The Swiss School of Tourism and Hospitality Management, affords our students the opportunity to spend the fall semester of their sophomore year studying hospitality management in Europe. HRIM also offers a 4+1+1 program that enables students to complete their undergraduate work and obtain an M.B.A. in five years of study. In addition, the department has a Master of Science program in Hospitality Information Management, built upon the expertise of the HRIM faculty. HRIM also has a distinguished advisory board and a technology advisory board with regional, national and international representatives from throughout the industry. These board members assist in developing strategic program goals based upon their expertise as practicing industry professionals.

The HRIM program provides students unique hands-on learning experiences in the Vita Nova Restaurant and the Courtyard by Marriott. The Vita Nova Restaurant is a student-operated laboratory featuring a 60-seat dining room, exhibition, teaching and demonstration kitchens, the Darden Bistro and the Copeland Vinotek. The 126-room Courtyard by Marriott, with its high tech conference room featuring wireless computers and video conferencing facilities, offers students valuable experience in sales, marketing, revenue management, front office and housekeeping. The Alfred Lerner College of Undergraduate Advising and Academic Services, the HRIM faculty advisor and the Career Services Center serves the business and economics undergraduate student body by providing information and support for the students academic, professional and career development to foster their successful matriculation, graduation and placement. An integral part of the HRIM curriculum is the hospitality-related work experience. Seven hundred hours documented paid work experience and 100 hours of community service are required. These combined work experiences assist in the development of a resume that meets industry needs and prepares students for the increasingly complex and challenging hospitality industry.
