2. CREATE A M ATERIALS L IST . FOR EACH ITEM NEEDED,

INCLUDE THE PURCHASE LOCATION AND A PRICE. S UBMIT YOUR FINAL MATERIALS LIST .

3. COMPLETE

BOTH PARTS OF THE RESEARCH PROJECT LISTED BELOW . R ECORD ALL YOUR INFORMATION AND OBSERVATIONS TO INCLUDE IN YOUR FINAL YOUR PAPER.

TELESCOPE

THIS W ILL BE A MULTIPART, INDEPENDENT RESEARCH PROJECT. YOU MAY USE CLASS TIME AND SCHOOL RESOURCES TO HELP COMPLETE YOUR PROJECT.

Project

Begin by building a telescope. I have included a set of blueprints and materials for a telescope, you may need to research another design. Record your design and blueprints. Submit a materials list for the school to purchase. Once you have all the materials, build your telescope. Be sure you record the experience for your final paper

RESEARCH PAPER
You will be writing a paper about Telescopes. Your paper should be 4 pages, double spaced in 12 point font. You will need to conduct some independent research for your paper. Be sure to cite of all your sources and include the following items in your paper:

Explain what a telescope is and the basic science behind how it works. Discuss the history of the telescope; how the technology has changed and what scientists were involved. Discuss the major developments of telescope technology.

Explain 6 different types of telescopes; how they work and how they are different from each other. Discuss the impact of telescopes and telescope technology on our society. What can we use them for and how might they aide us in the future. Include at least 4 telescope images and explain what each is, where it was taken and what type of telescope took the picture. Include a reference section. Include your telescope plans and materials list and your celestial tracking observations (explained below).

CELESTIAL TRACKING
Once you have completed your research paper, you will use your telescope to track a celestial body. Find something in the sky and record the time and date you saw it, your specific location and the relative location of the celestial object (compass direction, angle of telescope, ect). Record your observations. Go online and see if you can figure out exactly what you saw (I would suggest using the NASA site or the HUBBLE site as they have lists of what is visible in the sky at any given time). Record what you discovered.
