Cultural industry is the accmulation of creativity and culture. Job opportunities can be created through the use of this intellectual property. Also, it can help improving the living standard of the people. According to the Hong Kong Trade Development Council, cultural industury can be divided into eleven categories. They are listed below: advertisement, architecture, arts, antique and crafts, design, digital entertainment, movie and video, art of musical performace, printing and publishing, software and electronic calculation and TV and radio. Can cultural industries be an tourist attraction in Hong Kong? Yes. Among the eleven categories, the arts aspect, which includes art exhibitions, selling and auction of art works, the music and performing arts aspect, which includes dramas and musical performance and the crafts aspect, which includes the selling of crafts. They can be attractive to tourists. However, all these aspects are facing the same problems. Poor government support, keen competition between cultural industries and othe tourist attractions and insufficient training programmes. Until now, the government do not have an complete set of development plan for the whole cultural industry. As we mentioned in the last report, the government choose to let an unreliable foreign company to use the valuable resource instead of an local organisation. This case has shown that the government don't have enough sense of judgement on the use of resources. The members of the investigation team are not professionals or experienced on arts. They are just government officials or the rich. People may ask, do they really have the ability of judging of? Therefore, the government should think carefully before making any policies. It should also allow more rooms for the experienced or professionals on judging in order to use the resources correctly. Venues for art creations should be increased so as to promote and encourage cultural industry development. A complete and better plan should be proposed for the future development of the cultural industry. Hong Kong is famous of shopping and gourmet. Visitors from around the world are attracted by these. Accoring to our survey research, there are only 2 visitors out of 20 are visiting Hong Kong for cultural activities. Keen competition is a big constraint for the development of cultural industry. Here are some advices as the solutions. Public arts is an important cultural element for a city. Hong Kong has a rapid city development. However, it is poor in the cultural aspect than the other countries. The government can help improving the situation by adding public arts elements on buildings, such as wall paintings and architecture designs. Besides, the government can hold cultural activities in all 18 districts. We suggest the district council to strengthen the original cultural elements and conduct more activities, such as writing, wall painting design or animation design competitions in order to raise pubilc consciousness on culture and train the teenages' creativity. In the long run, we hope each district can can build up their unique image through featured cultural activities. A rich and colourful cultural environment is the prerequisite condition for boosting an cultural economy. Among any discussion or investigation on cultural industries, education is the most popular topic. All countries agreed that the sense of creativity and arts can be trained. Cultural education should start from children in order to give them sufficient time to develop their potential on creativity. Culture arts is the source of creativity. It can give birth to talents and lead to creation of new ideas. Building the cultural fundation is the only way to thrive cultural industry. There is still a long way for Hong Kong to develop in to a world-class arts and culture destination.
