LULAC the League of Latin American Citizens is an organization based on protecting our communitys rights and to have the best in Education. We feel the league has not provided us with protection of our rights by permitting the use of our personal information without our consent. Becoming a member of an organization we first study the purpose and demands the organization asks of you. If we agree on the rules and conditions we sign up for. One of the first things you do is assure yourself that your personal information will not be given out or used without your permission. We do understand that your information may be used for the welfare and benefit of the organization. However, this is different. The standards used by credit cards companies, banks, hospitals, and the federal and state government also has rules in the use of your private information and in all cases you are asked to give permission to use your personal information. The other day, Linda Chavez representing LULAC State as acting State Director sent out a package to the councils in District 12 asking for their support to help on her run for Texas LULAC Director. The package included asking for donations, signing up to work, and asking for their support in her campaign. We never gave my permission for anyone to use our personal information for this type of communication. The fact that someone in a position of power in the league has the ability to use all of our personal information is unacceptable, especially since it is used for personal gain and not for the benefit of our members. We understand that a response to this use would be that the names of each Council President and their information are on the National Web page. The thing you must remember is that the listing only has each Council number, Name of their President, Phone number and not their e-mail address. If you recall an incident happened some two years ago when someone obtained the information of all our members and used it to send out spam e-mails just as the case with this incident and nothing has been done about that infringement, yet it caused uproar due to the infraction of privacy rights. We must start by asking for those who abuse our private information to first be reprimanded and if it continues the league should consider expulsion and exile of the member from the organization. With this we would request that the Texas State Executive Board reprimand Linda Chavez for abusing our members private information. This same request will be sent to the LULAC National Board if the State fails to act on this abuse of our private information.
