Applied Systems Analysis Division (ASAD), PAEC HQ Pakistan Institutes of Engineering and Applied Sciences (PIEAS) Pakistan Agricultural Research Council (PARC)
How to register?
Applied Systems Analysis (ASA) is an integrated and interdisciplinary approach to analyze real life complex systems. It usually has some combination of i) identification of objectives, constraints, and alternative courses of action; ii) examination of the probable consequences of the alternatives in terms of cost, benefits and risks; iii) presentation of alternatives in comprehensive framework, so the decision makers can make an informed decision from the alternatives. This training program aims to enhance analytical skills of ASA with case studies of energy/electricity, water and food systems. The program will impart training on various methodologies and techniques for analyzing social, economic, technical, financial and environmental issues of a system. In these courses the participants will learn methodologies and techniques for:

Long-term demand forecasting and projections, Resource assessment and optimal use of resources for a system expansion, Formulation of alternative strategies for sustainable development of a system, Assessment of environmental impacts, and Financial analysis of a project/system.

These courses will be conducted by professionals with international experience including academic/researchers from PIEAS, ASAD and PARC. International experts in applied systems analysis will deliver lectures through video conference or Live Webcast. Practitioners from government departments will also share their experiences.
Supply system architecture: Design and analytical techniques These courses will be a blend of theoretical knowledge and hands-on training. Half of the training time will be devoted to work sessions for practicing the methods and techniques taught in the lectures. Analytical tools and frameworks being used worldwide for systems analysis will also be introduced in the training program. During each training course real life case studies will be presented by national and international experts. Participants will also be encouraged to prepare and present a simple case study. Three major components of any supply system are: i) available resources and their quality, ii) production profile from these resources under techno-economic constraints, and iii) procedures/methods to harness these resources for meeting the envisaged demand. This course will impart training on analytical techniques to design various supply systems and formulation of expansion plans under alternative scenarios of resource availability, production profile and penetration of different technologies. In the work-sessions, participants will work on simple examples of modeling supply systems.
The program is designed for young engineers, natural and social scientists involved in research, planning, policy analysis and regulation of energy/ electricity, water and food systems with minimum 16-year education and some knowledge of mathematics. Fresh graduates and students of engineering, natural/ social sciences, can also benefit from this program.
