SEXUALITY IS A HUMAN RIGHT !

Pro-Choice Resources 2011 Annual Report IT WAS 1967...

We pay for abortions
Abortion was legal in a handful of states, but not Minnesota. A small group of doctors and clergy came together to help women get the medical care they sought. Travel was arranged. Abortions were paid for. Women and their families were treated with respect and dignity. This was the beginning of Pro-Choice Resources (PCR). We continue to fight the good fight by defending and advancing sexuality, including reproductive choice, as a human right. And we do this by providing resources and education.

Programs

Abortion might as well be illegal if you cant afford it. Last year, we pledged over $55,000 to people across the country who couldnt afford an abortion and wouldnt have received one without our help. Not only do we help pay for abortion care, but we also offer support and resources. We help people access medical assistance, provide referrals to parenting and adoption, services and offer nonjudgmental support.

We believe having an abortion is nothing to be ashamed about. In collaboration with Tubman (a womens domestic violence prevention and intervention facility) we offer the first pro-choice, after-abortion support and discussion group in the nation. We believe its important for women to be able to discuss their abortion experiences openly and honestly in order to combat the shame game society plays with women.

We resist the stigma

You cant make smart decisions about your sex life if you dont have accurate information. Our staff tackles all types of subjects like gender, healthy relationships, birth control methods and all pregnancy options. And our goal is to help youth and adults increase their personal control over their sexual health. But we dont do this work alone. We started the first and only program to train college students studying to become teachers on how to teach and talk about sexuality.

Megan lost her health insurance when she lost her job. Soon after, the bank took her house. She was living in her car when she found out she was pregnant. Megan wanted an abortion - she felt it was the right decision. After borrowing money from friends and pawning a family heirloom, she was still short $150. She was losing hope. Until she called us. We helped her get the abortion care she sought by giving her the $150 she needed. After her abortion, Megan contacted us to let us know how she was doing. She said, Even though it wasnt easy, I know I made the right decision. Without you I dont know what I would have done. Thank you.

Includes the abortion assistance fund repayments, earned revenue interest, miscellaneous income and in-kind donations.

Pro-Choice resources 2011 Annual Report

This is our annual report based on the audit of fiscal year July 1, 2010 through June 30, 2011. Its more like highlights, really. Weve been so busy if we included everything weve done, youd have a book comparable to the size of War and Peace. Lets start things off right and highlight the people who believe in what we do. Our donors and volunteers make us an exceptional community-based nonprofit. They are Pro-Choice Resources.
