Offloading of Piles

Working at height
Persons hooking the piles to sling wires must stand on bed of the trailer and not on top of the piles - Persons on top of bed of the trucks should not work at height higher than 1.8m from ground to avoid violation of Life Saving Rue No. 6

Lifting of Piles
Safe working load of cranes used for lifting of piles must be more than the weight of piles to be lifted. Sling wires must be checked to ensure there are no signs of failure. The piling area marked as red zone will be barricaded with physical barriers and only authorised personnel will be allowed into the area

Movement of piles to stacking position

Truck must bring casings piles near stacking area. Pile casings taken out of the truck will be lifted out of truck to a stacking position with no one allowed to move under the lifted pile casings

Picking up Piles

Movement of persons under lifted piles

No one is allowed to go under lifted pile as this is a suspended load that could fall with severe consequences

Hooking up of piles
Sling wires must be checked to ensure there are no signs of failure. The piling area marked as red zone will be barricaded with physical barriers and only authorised personnel will be allowed into the area The casing pile is welded to casing pile guide . The casing pile guide acts as a lifting gear for pile casing and a contact point for vibro-hammer. The pile guide must have two eyes for secondary support. A sling is attached via shakles to the lifting eyes anchoring on the piling crane shakles as a secondary support ,should the vibro-hammer clamp fail. When hoisting piles into position underneath the impact hammer, personnel must stand at least 11/2 times the length of the pile from the bottom of the lead tower.

Welding Pile casings unto Positioning the Pile projecting driven casing ( first Full length) The piling

crane shall lift the Vibro-hammer clamped to the pile guide welded to Pile casing . The pile guide will attached to the pile crane shakle via the secondary support. When the casing has come to piling point the foreman and helper move close and push the Pile to into position. The Supervisor, surveyor standing at a distance, directs this activity When lifting the complimentary pile-casing onto a previous pile point for welding, the safety latch on the crane travelling block hook will be disabled to allow easy disengagement from height after welding

Welding Pile casing for continuity

The welders must be visible to the operator . The casing must be tack welded round before welding commences. The foreman and helper carry out this function under the direction of the Supervisor The foreman and Rigger must be visible to the Operator while carrying out this activity

Installation of Pile casing

Driving down Pile casings

No one is allowed to go under the piling vibro-hammer during installation of pile casing The CAT Rope must be held at a safe distance. Unauthorized persons will not be allowed into the piling area at all times

Checking Verticality of Driving

Verticality of piles is checked with Survey instrument and/or spirit level held close to the pile. Pile driving should be suspended while the check is going on. The foreman checking the verticality of the pile must be visible to the Operator and have good communication with the Operator and Supervisor.

Drilling of casing.
No one is allowed to go under the Auger Drilling machine .

Removal of Mud after Drilling

The foreman opening the drill bucket to release the Mud must be visible to the operator. Swinging of Auger bucket to free the Mud.No one is permited within its swing radius 1.5L (L=distance from bucket to crane rear)

The piling area will be cleared of all obstruction and unwanted materials everyday before commencement of work or anytime there is accumulation of waste at the site.
