Frankenstein

A Layered Curriculum Approach


We will be conducting a study of Mary Shelleys Frankenstein. We will approach this study with a Layered Curriculum that will allow you to have choices of tasks in each of the three levels. Your grade will be dependent upon the completion and quality of the finished products. All assignments in the options tasks have a handout with specific instructions to follow. See me to get these handouts. Options tasks must be turned in on time. No late work will be accepted for these tasks.

Layer I
Required Tasks - (all students will complete each of these tasks) 1. Letters Activity 2. Frankenstein Stations 3. Chapter Study Questions (4) Options Tasks you must complete one (1) of these tasks YOU CHOOSE DUE DATE: ________________________________ 1. Write two (2) diary entries for Dr. Frankenstein. 2. Create a poem from the persona of the creature. 3. Create a crossword puzzle for the letters and one for the novel vocabulary you are required to complete two (2) crosswords for this activity. 4. Create and print in color a Wordle (www.wordle.net) using words that depict the character and personality of Dr. Frankenstein or the creature.

Layer II
Required Tasks - (all students will complete each of these tasks) 1. Mid-Way Bingo Review 2. Socratic Seminar/In-Depth Discussion 3. Timed Writing Activity 4. Reading Quizzes (2) Options Tasks you must complete two (2) of these tasks YOU CHOOSE DUE DATE: ________________________________ 1. Design four (4) postcards depicting the different settings of the story. Write a message from one of the characters to another character on each of the postcards demonstrating your understanding of the story and the setting. 2. Design a Frankenstein bulletin board. 3. Respond to the two political cartoons by answering the provided questions. 4. Complete a Double-Bubble Map comparing Victor Frankenstein and foil from the novel. 5. Write a letter from the creature to Dr. Frankenstein explaining how his upbringing (or lack of) has defined his character. 6. Read the Greek mythology story of Prometheus and answer the provided questions.

Layer III

Required Tasks - (all students will complete each of these tasks) 1. Frankenstein Test Options Tasks you must complete one (1) of these tasks YOU CHOOSE DUE DATE: ________________________________ 1. Write and record a song about the story of Dr. Frankenstein and/or his creature. 2. Make a visual piece of art (painting, sculpture, drawing, etc.) that demonstrates your interpretation of either Dr. Frankenstein or his creature. 3. Create a travel brochure for Dr. Frankensteins travels while in pursuit of the creature. 4. Conduct an interview with one of the characters and video tape the final interview. This interview should demonstrate your understanding of the novel. 5. Create a Frankenstein (review) board game. The game should demonstrate your understanding of the novel (themes, characters, setting, etc.). 6. Take on the role of an FBI profiler and analyze Frankensteins creature based on the crimes he has committed. You must respond to the provide questions.
