DESIGN COMPETITION
FOR VESUVIUS EAST
STATION
There are 48 requests to parti-
cipate in the international de-
sign competition for the new
East Vesuvius station including
twenty entries from abroad.
Within sixty days the jury will
select the ten competitors to
be admitted to the second pha-
se of the competition for the
preliminary design. By July 2009
the winner will be chosen and
awarded the top prize of 100
thousand euros. The number of
candidates and the high quality
of the entries confirms the high
interest the competition has
manifested from the both natio-
nal and international architectu-
ral firms. The jury, nominated
by the state railway company,
the 'Ferrovie dello Stato', in co-
operation with the Professional
Orders and the Campania Re-
gion, is made up of important
experts from public institutions
and the international world of
architecture.

PARMA, FOUNDATION
STONE FOR THE 'GREEN'
DISTRICT PASUBIO
Works have just commenced in
the construction site for the
development of the building-
heart of the Pasubio district, in
Parma, that will be completed
in two years. The result of the
tender is what represents a
neuralgic point of the Bohigas's
project, the so-called district B,
a five-storey building facing the
new public square surrounded
by the green. The construction
of Pasubio starts after two ye-
ars of demolition of parts not
useful or degraded.
The tender competition for the
selection of the project for the
development of the office (12
thousand square metre with
two underground storey for
cellars and residents' car parks),
has identified a qualitative en-
hancement: the building will ha-
ve to be developed in the e-
nergy class A, when the basis
for the bid was for a class B,
with important consequences in
terms of energy consumption.

QUALITA' ITALIA, NEW
DESIGN COMPETITIONS
Tenders have been published
for the architectural projects
relative to those selected in the
2007-2008 edition of 'Qualita'
Italia'. The initiative, sponsored
by the Ministries for Cultural
Heritage and Economic Develo-
pment, with the regions partici-
pating in the Multi-Regional
Programme Agreement for de-
velopment (Abruzzo, Basilicata,
Calabria, Molise, Puglia, Sardinia
and Sicily), is to promote the
use of design competitions for
the realization of quality public
projects in southern regions in
Italy. The design competitions
for architects, civil and environ-
mental engineers, engineering
and architectural companies,
and temporary professional par-
tnerships are for various pro-
jects, have been put out to
tender by six administrations
selected from dozens of candi-
dates.

ITALY-LIBYA, PROJECT
FOR NEW FAIR
GROUNDS
The first Italian-Libyan infra-
structure, mechanics and te-
chnology trade fair has just fini-
shed. The event brought toge-
ther Italian businesses intere-
sted in the Libyan market and
Libyan companies looking for
Italian alliances. In particular,
steps were taken in the nego-
tiations between Milan’s Ente
Fiera and the International Fair
of Tripoli, to build a 500,000

BOLOGNA, RENTS
STABLE IN FIRST HALF
OF 2008

Office survey in the rental
market in Bologna, Florence,
Milan, Naples, Rome and Na-
ples, rental prices in Bologna
were stable in the first half of
2008. The report shows that

for a one room apartment is
around 578 euros a month and
around 667 euros for a two
room unit. For a three room
apartment the average price is
763 and four rooms go for 898

CRISIS PUSHES ITALIANS
FROM TAKING CREDIT
The financial crisis has led Ita-
lians to avoid taking out home
mortgages; paying the monthly
rate creates serious difficulties
for 84% of Italians, so much so
that in 2009, as large a slice as
65% categorically excluded the
possibility of taking out new
mortgages and only 8% say they
are ready to do so. Already this
year a large number of custo-
mers have turned their backs
on loans and mortgages, almost
50% of those interviewed in a
poll taken by Confesercenti-
SWG. According to the survey,
every month Italian households
pay out 478 euros, but for 23%
of those questioned expenses
vary from 500 to 1,000 euros,
