Title of the Project : Fabrication of Eco House based on concept of using

different renewable sources of energy.

Project Summary : Introduction :

Eco house is a concept of fabricating a house which uses different Renewable energy resources e.g. Solar energy, wind energy, Rain water harvesting & Biomass production techniques, to generate required power & energy. Although this concept is successfully implied in many parts of world, it is not yet much popular in India.

Background & Context :

An Eco house is a low energy house with a fully integrated photovoltaic roof & other renewable energy sources. It would evaluate the potential for renewable energy sources to contribute to domestic energy supplies. Moreover, it is totally environmental friendly & do not produce any kind of pollution. With the rapid decrease in amount of conventional fuels, Eco house can be considered as Future Homes.

Technical Details : Origin of the proposal :

Over the past few years, power consumption has increased to a large extent with increase in population. Eventually, rates of electricity has also increased. So, we got this idea of designing a house which can cut down electricity costs. So, we searched internet & got a few designs. Thus, we have decided to make some modifications & prepare a model of Eco house with respect to geographical conditions in India.

Definition of the problem :

To design a house which generates required energy/electricity on its own using various renewable sources of energy.

Objectives :
The main objectives of this project are : i. To fix solar panels & windmills on roof of Eco house & demonstrate flow of electricity from it. ii. To demonstrate the concept of Rain water harvesting & Composite Pit (to produce biomass). iii. To demonstrate a no pollution, environment friendly system in our household.

Work Plan :
i. First stage of project is to design the Eco house using following concepts 1) Solar Panels 2) Solar Water heater 3) Green House effect 4) Windmill 5) Rain water harvesting 6) Composite pit (to produce biomass) The second stage will consist of fabricating the model of Eco house using miniatures. The third stage consists of mathematical analysis of energy that can be generated from it.

Proposed Outcomes :
i. ii. Eco house cuts down electricity costs to about 70 80 %. It helps in keeping our household & surroundings pollution free & green.

Details of Facilities to be provided by the Institution :

Use of workshop for assembly & testing. Legitimate help for purchasing goods & materials.

Budget Estimate :
Solar Panels : Rs. 4000 Integrated Circuits : Rs. 1000 Miniatures : Rs. 2500 Report writing : Rs. 1000 Contingency & other miscellaneous costs : Rs. 1500 Total cost (approx.): Rs. 10,000

Utilization of outcome of Project :

The concept of Eco house, if implanted on a large scale, can cut down electricity costs up to a large extent. An Eco house have an advantage of temperature control. One part of the house which is established as green house, keeps the house warm in winter, while the 150 mm thick insulation in other part of house keeps moderate temperature of 22 C even in hot summer. An Eco house of size 2500*2500 Sq. Ft. Emits approx. 140 kg/year of Carbon dioxide which is negligible as compared to any conventional house of same size emitting 6000 kg/year of carbon dioxide. Thus, an Eco house reduces pollution almost by 95%. Biomass produced from composite pit can be used to produce biogas or as a natural fertilizer for plants.
