There are quite a lot of miracle babies in the Bible. Of course, all babies are a miracle. But there are those who are born despite impossible circumstances (like the story of baby Melinda and also the Old Testament miracle babies that we have just discussed). For the next two weeks, we will look at two miracle babies

from the New Testament and realize that no matter how impossible a situation may be, nothing is impossible with God. (Luke 1:37, also todays memory verse see above). NOTE TO TEACHER: At this point, make sure your students have their bible opened to Luke 1. Lead the children into the discussion by following this outline.

MIRACLE BABY #1: JOHN THE BAPTIST (Luke 1:5-25) 1. They were the parents of John the Baptist. Zechariah & Elizabeth (v.5) 2. What was the occupation of Zechariah? He was a priest. (v.5) 3. Zechariah and Elizabeth were the descendants of _____. Aaron (v.5) 4. Give two reasons why Zechariah and Elizabeth did not have children. One: Elizabeth was barren (unable to bear children). (v.7) Two: They were well along in years (in short, they were old). (v.7) 5. What was Zechariah doing when he was visited by an angel? He was inside the temple of the Lord burning the incense. (vv. 8-11) 6. What name did the angel tell Zechariah to give their child? John. (v. 13) 7. How special will the baby John going to be? a. He will bring joy to his parents. (v.14) b. He will bring joy to many people. (v.14) c. He will be great in the sight of God (or he will be one of Gods distinguished [recognized for excellence] men). (v.15) d. Life Application:

What can we learn from the story of John the Baptist? 1. Nothing is impossible with God. No matter how impossible a situation may seem, always remember that God can do the impossible. Johns parents may be old, and his mother was even barren, but God was still able to use them to bring John into this world.

Reflection: What is your number one need [request] to God that you think is impossible? Example: Healing 2. We must believe in what God says. Zechariahs unbelief with the angels message caused him to be mute [a person who cannot speak] for many months. Imagine if God still punishes people like that today? We might be facing a world with a lot of people who cannot speak! But praise God because through His Son Jesus, we are now living by grace. We are not struck mute nor struck dead instantly the moment we sin. But that doesnt mean that we can go on sinning.

Not believing in what God says is sin. It is like we are saying that God is lying to us. And that is not so! God is Truth. Jesus is Truth and Life. Therefore, we must believe in Gods Word with all of our hearts.

Reflection: (In relation to #1) What does God say about it? Example: by His wounds we are healed. (Isaiah 53:5) 3. You are special! The Bible tells us that we are the apple of Gods eyes (Psalm 17:8). That means you are very special to God. He loves you more than you will ever know. People here on earth may disappoint and hurt you, but you can always depend on Gods love. You can never do anything to make God not love you (Romans 8:38-39). In fact, because of His great love, He gave Jesus to save us. And Jesus gave Himself up to give His life as a ransom for us. Thats how special you are!

Another special thing about you is that you are unique. Just like John the Baptist, you were born in this world for a very special purpose. How will you know what your specific purpose is? Heres a few simple ways: 1. Discover your talents. (What?) Example: I am good in Teaching 2. Realize why you do what you do. (Why?) Example: I do it because it makes me very happy when a person I am teaching is finally learning a concept. 3. Recognize the value of the eternal. (What for?) Example: I am doing this so that I can help people to know more about God.

Reflection: What is your purpose here on earth? Example: [Use the outline above]

But of course, you dont have to wait until you are old enough to know what your purpose is. Because no matter what your specific purpose is, all of us are here on earth to do this: Fear God and keep his commandments, for this is the whole duty of man. Ecclesiastes 12:13 Crafts:
