HOW TO REGISTER: All registration is online at www.rcet.net . Just click on the Workshop tab at the top of the page to get started. Review the list of workshops and scroll down to Click to Register on the workshops of your choice. Enter your registration information. Please be sure to include a phone number where you can be reached. You will be notified if a session has been cancelled or is filled up. If your school is not listed, choose Other and enter your district where indicated. If you need to cancel your registration, contact the RCET-SW office at 417.523.5560 or email us at rcet@mindspring.com . Be sure to give your name, your district and the topic of the session you are canceling. You will receive confirmation of online registration within a few days of registering. CANCELLATION POLICY: If Springfield R-12 schools are closed, then all RCET workshops on that date are canceled. 120302 Creating a Website Using Edublogs


Tue., March 6 4:30-6:00 p.m. Fair Grove Elementary, Library 132 N. Main Presenter: Heather Lewis Need a free and easy classroom webpage? Edublogs is an easy and FREE blog site that will help you get started with your classroom webpage. It is a GREAT way to communicate with parents and to share your childrens work with them. I will walk you through setting up your site, how to personalize it to fit your needs, and how to customize all of your widgets and other unfamiliar objects. Please sign-up in advance for an account with www.edublogs.org . I will provide lots of one-on-one time to work. If you want to upload any picture or documents, please bring them stored on a flash drive. (Limit 15)

120303 Jing For anyone who demonstrates anything on a computer!!


Wed., March 7 4:30-6:00 p.m. *District Technology Center 301 S. Main, Nixa Presenter: Angie Brill Learn how to put Jing (theres a free version!) into action in your classroom! Jing is a popular screencasting tool. Use it to demonstrate or create tutorials, prerecord lessons, collaborate on projects, turn PowerPoints into multi-media presentations, and even add value to student homework. With Jing, you can provide that extra tutor time to several students without taking up more of your time. This session will teach you how to set-up and use Jing, as well as practical tips on how to use screen captures in a classroom. Presenter: Dave Duff Prezi is a web-based presentation application and storytelling tool that uses a single, infinite canvas instead of traditional slides. Learn how to create nonlinear presentations, where you can zoom in and out of a visual map; create a path through different objects and frames to represent the order of the information to be presented; and view your presentation in either a browser window or download to show it without an internet connection. 120305 3D! No Glasses Required!

Washington, Springfield Presenter: Roger King Looking for something new to challenge and excite your students while engaging their creativity and innovation skills? This hands-on workshop will explore one of Googles coolest products, SketchUp. This is a 3D drawing program that will allow your students to truly discover the world of threedimensional design and art, which is a vital skill in todays technological world. You will learn the basics of the program as well as a few advanced skills, and (hopefully) by the end of the class you will have a great start on your own house complete with furniture! Basic to intermediate computer skills necessary. (Limit 15)

Presenter: Dave Duff With the push of a button on their wireless remotes, students can instantly tell you how much they know. Youll no longer have to wonder whether all your students are keeping up with lesson material, since youll see precisely how well each student is doing. This workshop will go over the basics of the SMART Response systems, as well as, how to set-up classes and create quizzes. (Limit 10)

120307 Clean Your Machine!


Thur., March 15 4:30-6:00 p.m. The Tefft Center, Rm. 102 1418 Pythian, Springfield Presenter: Mike Garton The objective of this workshop is to show you preventative maintenance techniques to keep your computer in tip-top shape without spending a dime on software. You will learn how to tweak your web browser settings to avoid contracting spyware or mailware while web surfing. You will learn about free alternative web browsers that are designed from the ground up to prevent this type of infection, how to remove Spyware from your machine and how to immunize your machine from future Spyware infections, how to prevent pop-up windows from ruining your web browsing experience and exposing you to malicious or annoying software, how to keep your operating system up-to-date using Microsofts update service as well as how to use free patch management tools to accomplish the same goal. You will learn how to analyze and prevent other breeches of security in order to make your machine as secure as possible and how to set up a personal firewall. Lastly, you will learn how to take advantage of free virus scanning tools to keep your machine free from viruses, worms, trojan horses, etc. (Limit 12)

We will cover the basic features of the iPad from both the teacher and students perspective. We will also be covering several of the popular iPad apps and their features, including Pages, Numbers, Keynote, Elements, MathBoard, Stack the States and more! Come with questions about all aspects of the iPad. (Limit 20)

Jump onboard the Google train!! Explore the possibilities with Gmail, Google Docs, Calendar, Groups and more. Get control of your email and become more organized by learning the features of Gmail and Google Calendar. Learn how to create forms, polls, presentations, and how to collaborate projects among teachers and/or students. Create quizzes and tests, keep track of data such as permission forms, homework, or create and record data and more with Google Docs. Main, Nixa Presenter: David Liss We spend so much time creating, modifying and gathering our electronic stuff and most of it is mission critical! So, why risk losing it all? Why open the door to unauthorized access or misuse of your most trusted documents and files? Do you know what sort of data security procedures you should follow to ensure you wont lose everything in the event of a hard-drive failure or virus attack; or have your most confidential and mission critical files compromised. Thur., March 29 4:30-6:30 p.m. SPS R12 General Services Ctr., Training Lab - 1458 E. Chestnut Expy. Presenter: Dave Duff Weebly is a free, online website creator that uses a widget-style format, allowing users to create pages with only a few clicks by dragging and dropping different page elements (images, text, or interactive content, etc.) onto a page and filling in the content. Participants in this workshop will be provided instruction on how to use Weebly and time to work on your classroom website. (Limit 10)

120312 Help for H.O.T. (Higher Order Thinking) Using Intels Free Online Tools Part 1 of 2
Tue., April 3 4:30-6:00 p.m. *District Technology Center 301 S. Main, Nixa Presenter: Janna Elfrink Participants will learn about the Intel tools; Visual Ranking, Seeing Reason and Showing Evidence, as they try each tool to become familiar with the capabilities and benefits for student learning. Participants will understand how to implement the tools as they practice with sample units that require higher order thinking. Then, they will apply what theyve learned by researching instructional strategies for each tool and will create a Teacher Workspace on the site to start a lesson using at least one of the tools. As time allows, we will explore other elements of Intels Teacher Intel site. Take a peek at the tools prior to the session at engage.intel.com .
