PERSONNEL 3.1 3.2 Personnel performing examination in accordance with this procedure shall be qualified and certified in accordance ASNT SNT TC 1A-2001. Only certified NDE Level II or NDE Level III personnel shall interpret and evaluate examination results. NDE Level I may perform specific test, calibration and record data in accordance with written instructions sheet prepared by Level II or III qualified. The Level I shall perform the examination under supervision of NDE Level II or III personnel.

4.0

EQUIPMENT 4.1 The Ultrasonic equipment used will be a pulse echo A-Scan system capable of transmitting and receiving frequencies from 1MHz to 10MHz such as USM-35 DAC or equivalent.

PROBES Shall be used Double transducer probe 10mm to 25mm in diameter and the probes shall have a nominal frequency in the range of 2 MHz to 5 MHz to inspect nominal thickness of plate from 6mm to 60mm during scanning the barrier separating the two crystal of transducer shall be perpendicular to scanning direction

6.0

COUPLANT 6.1 Couplant used will be water or Glycerin / Water 1: 2 parts or oil to enable good contact between the probes and the inspection surface.

7.0

SURFACE PREPARATION 7.1 7.2 The material examined shall be free from surface irregularities, dust, dirt, grease, or any foreign matter that might interface with the examination. The surface condition shall permit at least two successive back-wall echoes.

8.0

CALIBRATION SETTING OF SENSITIVITY 8.1 Instrument performance The horizontal, vertical linearity and amplifier linearity verification shall be carried out using procedure doc. No.FAB-QMW-10-01/UT at least once in 3 months. Calibration records shall be maintained. 8.2 Calibration blocks For instrument settings, V1, V2 or step wedge blocks shall be used. Step blocks with FBH 5mm shall be used for sensitivity and range setting for inspection of classes S3 and E4 plates or curves line FBH 5mm.

9.0

SCANNING PLAN DETERMINATION OF AREA OF SCANNING 9.1 SCAN AREAS OF THE BODY TO BE WELDED ACCORDING TO SKETCHES: For plate thickness from 6mm to 60mm scan full areas of the body were T-Joint or Corner joint shall be performed. SCAN AREA OF THE EDGES OF PRODUCT: For plate thickness from 6mm to 60mm scan full area the edge zone of base material were But joint shall be performed, over the full edges of the flat product.

DETERMINATION OF THE AREA OF DISCONTINUITIES: 9.3.1 Testing the Body: The area of discontinuities giving responses exceeded the curve FBH 5mm shall be determined using 6dB drop technique. A rectangle that encompass the whole of discontinuity is then determined, the major dimension of which is called the length and the minor dimension the width of discontinuity. The area of rectangle is also calculated. The area of rectangle defines the area (S) of discontinuity, two nearby discontinuity shall be considered a single discontinuity if the distance between item is less than or equal to the length of the smaller of the two. 9.3.21 Testing of Edges: The area of discontinuities giving responses exceeded the curve FBH 5mm shall be determined using 6 dB drop technique. The test consists of scanning the total area of the edge where discontinuities may be located applying the sensitivity and range defined in paragraph 8.2. The following shall be determined: The maximum dimension (L max) and minimum dimension (L min) in the lamination direction of the plate. The area (S) of the discontinuity. The n of discontinuities smaller than the maximum area (S max) and minimum dimension (L min) per 1 m length.

ACCEPTANCE CRITERIA 10.1 ACCEPTANCE CRITERIA E4 FOR TEST USING DOUBLE PROBE OF WELDING ZONE OF BODY MATERIAL AREA T-JOINT AND CORNER JOINT AND EDGES FOR BUTT JOINTS Individual size L max 20mm permitted Maximum area S max mm 50 permitted Minimum discontinuity dimension considered L min 10mm. Number of discontinuity permissible smaller than the max area S max and longer than L min per 1 m length 2.
